Entô's Special Exhibition: The Sansho Yukata Museum in Oki

Entô, in collaboration with the historic Yukata maker Sansho, will host the "Sansho Yukata Museum in Oki" from June 1 to 29, 2025, at the Entô Geo Lounge. This unique exhibition aims to highlight the rich cultural heritage of Japan's Yukata and its harmonious relationship with the environment.

Background and Significance

The Yukata, crafted from cotton—a natural fiber that returns to the earth—is a traditional Japanese garment. This exhibition will detail the Yukata creation process, offering insights into its cultural significance. Attendees, including local island residents and guests of Entô, will have the opportunity to deepen their understanding of the Yukata's value and its sustainable attributes from a fresh perspective.

Highlights of the Exhibition

Visitors will explore over 130 years of Yukata-making history through Ise-kata paper stencils and traditional Yukata fabric patterns. The exhibition will also showcase the Yukata provided by Sansho for the 2024 classical sumo events, emphasizing the connections between the Yukata and the lives of people in the Oki region.

During the exhibition, the Entô SHOP will offer various merchandise, including tenugui (hand towels), fans, and other Yukata-related items. Exclusive products will also be available on days when special talk events occur.

Special Program

One of the main attractions will be a talk event by the fourth-generation Sansho representative, Mr. Hanji Amano, titled "Japanese Wisdom through 130 Years of Yukata Crafting". This event will invite participants to reflect and converse about manufacturing history, the transfer of techniques, and coexistence with the environment. It aims to create an engaging dialogue where shared experiences and insights can be exchanged.
