Alaska Students to Shine at School Choice Showcase
In just two weeks, Wasilla will host a remarkable event celebrating student achievement and educational diversity across Alaska. On January 26th, students from various educational models will gather at King's Alaska to share their love for learning with the community. This engaging showcase, coordinated in conjunction with the National School Choice Week, is part of a larger initiative aimed at highlighting the different K–12 educational choices available in the state, also known as the Last Frontier.
The event will feature students exhibiting their unique talents and learning experiences, offering insights into how school choice has positively influenced their educational journeys. Parents and educators will also contribute by sharing their personal narratives about the impact of selecting the right educational pathway for their children. Over the last decade, Alaska has seen an impressive expansion of K–12 education options, giving families access to a myriad of public, charter, private, online, home, and hybrid learning opportunities.
Leigh Sloan, the President of the Alaska School Choice Fund, shared her excitement about the event, stating, "The Alaska Students Shine Assembly is the first of its kind in the Mat-Su Valley. We are thrilled to honor the impressive accomplishments of our exceptional Alaskan students. Additionally, this event underscores how innovative learning environments can empower students to reach their highest potential."
Scheduled to take place between 1:00 PM and 2:00 PM, the assembly promises to be an inspiring gathering for students, families, and community members alike. Not only will it showcase the diverse educational landscapes in Alaska, but it will also foster a collaborative spirit among educators, parents, and students in the pursuit of optimal learning environments for every child.
National School Choice Week, running from January 25th to 31st, will feature over 28,000 events nationwide, all with the aim of raising awareness about educational options. By empowering families to explore different learning opportunities, this initiative helps parents feel more confident in navigating the complex landscape of education to ensure their children receive the quality education they deserve.

As the spotlight shines on Alaska's students, this event represents a significant step forward in promoting educational choice and celebrating the remarkable achievements of young Alaskans.
