Matsumoto Koichiro was born in 1973 in Tokyo. Known for his dedication to Kabuki, he first took the stage in 1979 under the name Matsumoto Kintaro. He assumed the title of the seventh Ichikawa Somegorō in 1981, and in January 2018, he became the 10th Matsumoto Koichiro at Kabukiza Theatre.
