Strong New Contract for CVS Teamsters
Over 900 Teamsters at the CVS Health Distribution Center in La Habra have proudly ratified a new four-year collective bargaining agreement that marks a significant milestone for the workforce. The successful agreement comes after a credible strike threat that brought management to the negotiating table, ultimately resulting in substantial gains for the workers involved.
The new contract will deliver a wage increase totaling $7.10 per hour over its duration, with a notable $3 per hour raise allocated to workers in the first year alone. Additionally, pension contributions are set to rise by $1.50 per hour, significantly improving the long-term retirement security for many Teamster families.
Gary Brocket, a 13-year CVS Teamster and shop steward for Local 952, expressed his satisfaction with the outcome, stating, "This is the best contract we've ever negotiated at this facility. We won real gains that will improve our lives for years to come. I'm proud to walk into work knowing our Teamsters contract is protecting us."
In addition to these financial benefits, the new contract enshrines Martin Luther King Jr. Day as a paid holiday and resolves longstanding seniority issues within the warehouse. A key highlight of the agreement is the transfer of work back in-house, which not only creates more Teamster jobs but also enhances earnings opportunities for existing members.
Another notable aspect of the contract includes provisions that bolster protections for drivers. The new rules restrict the use of surveillance cameras on the job, ensuring a greater sense of privacy for Teamsters. Furthermore, all members are now safeguarded by robust contract language that upholds their right to honor picket lines, underlining the solidarity within the union.
Eric Jimenez, the Secretary-Treasurer of Local 952, emphasized the collective strength of the members throughout negotiations, noting, "Our members stayed strong and never backed down. Their unity delivered a life-changing agreement. We held CVS management accountable and won a contract that reflects the strength and determination of our members."
The International Brotherhood of Teamsters, founded in 1903, continues to stand for the rights of countless workers across various sectors in the U.S., Canada, and Puerto Rico, representing 1.3 million hardworking individuals. This recent victory at the La Habra distribution center underscores the importance of collective bargaining and the significant impact it can have when workers come together.
