Distributed Energy Infrastructure Launches Two New Community Solar Projects in New York State
Distributed Energy Infrastructure LLC (DEI), renowned for its engineering, procurement, and construction (EPC) services, has celebrated a significant achievement with the mechanical completion of two solar projects in New York. This landmark initiative includes the 2.9 MW West Genesee Solar Project and the 5 MW Cold Springs Solar Project, both developed for Generate Capital. Located near Lysander, New York, these projects represent DEI's inaugural installations in Central New York and are set to connect with the New York Independent System Operator (NYISO) grid in the second quarter of 2026.
Throughout the winter of 2025-2026, despite facing one of the harshest weather conditions with over 100 inches of snowfall recorded in the Baldwinsville area, DEI's teams displayed remarkable resilience and dedication. They managed to maintain construction timelines without any safety incidents, showcasing their capability to work effectively in challenging environments. Mike Wilkinson from DEI remarked on the team's commitment, stating, "Completing these projects through one of Central New York's harshest winters is a testament to what our team is capable of. Our crews pushed through snowy, muddy, and freezing conditions to stay on schedule and build safely. We're proud to deliver two high-quality projects that will bring clean energy to this community."
Both solar projects are designed with cutting-edge technology to enhance energy generation efficiency. They utilize ATI single-axis tracking systems along with bifacial solar modules, which are capable of converting direct sunlight and reflected light into electricity. This innovative approach allows the new systems to achieve an impressive 30-40% higher efficiency compared to standard monofacial solar panels. As electricity demand rises, especially during peak summer hours, these projects are positioned to contribute valuable clean energy to the grid.
In addition to their environmental benefits, the construction of these solar facilities has had a positive economic impact on the local community. The electrical installation work was carried out by IBEW Local 43, with several other local firms, such as Schuler Haas/Ferguson Electric, DC Solar, Williams Fence and Excavation, and Greenside Services Inc., participating in various aspects of the project. Peggy Flannery, Managing Director at Generate Capital, emphasized the collaboration that made these projects possible: "West Genesee and Cold Springs are a great example of what's possible when the right team, financing, and community come together. We're proud to bring clean energy and local jobs to Lysander and support Central New York's growing role in the clean energy transition."
Looking to the Future
The launch of these solar projects marks an important step in DEI's ongoing commitment to renewable energy. With a track record of executing over 500 unique projects throughout the United States—including the installation of more than 1.2 gigawatts of solar energy and 400 MWh of battery storage—DEI continues to pave the way for innovation and sustainability in the energy sector.
As DEI embarks on this journey in Central New York, the impact of these projects is anticipated to resonate beyond immediate benefits. They represent a larger movement towards renewable energy solutions that are imperative in addressing climate change and reducing reliance on fossil fuels. With further developments planned in the renewable sector, DEI is poised to play a pivotal role in the evolving landscape of energy production.
