United Digestive's Expansion Strategy
Atlanta, GA - In a significant move to enhance patient access to gastrointestinal care, United Digestive (UD), one of the largest physician practice management companies in the Southeast, has embarked on an ambitious expansion project. This initiative includes the establishment of new clinics and Ambulatory Surgery Centers (ASCs), the recruitment of top-tier healthcare providers, and the implementation of ancillary services that align with its comprehensive care model.
Neal C. Patel, MD, the CEO of United Digestive, emphasized the importance of organic growth, stating, "Organic growth has always been a core pillar of our organization's strategic initiatives. By thoughtfully expanding our clinical footprint, recruiting exceptional providers, and investing in advanced outpatient facilities, we are improving access to preventive and specialized GI care for the communities we serve."
Recent Developments
In March, United Digestive celebrated a major milestone with the opening of the West Florida Surgical Suites in Tampa, which features three new endoscopy procedure rooms. Remarkably, this facility is a repurposed non-GI outpatient center, now dedicated to gastrointestinal endoscopy. Building on this momentum, a newly constructed ASC with three procedure rooms is set to open later this year in Watkinsville, Georgia.
Moreover, the company is actively expanding its presence in Georgia, having recently opened or enhanced clinic locations in Watkinsville, Commerce, Dawsonville, and Forsyth, with yet another clinic under construction in Cartersville.
Recruitment for Enhanced Services
To further boost its capabilities, United Digestive has successfully recruited a skilled workforce, onboarding 11 gastroenterologists, one pathologist, and 12 advanced practice providers in 2025 alone. Looking to the future, they plan to bring on seven additional gastroenterologists and one pathologist in 2026, along with 16 advanced practice providers.
These staffing efforts are intended to increase access and reduce wait times for patients seeking high-quality GI care.
Comprehensive Care Model
In its commitment to improving patient-centered healthcare, UD is expanding its infusion services to five locations in Florida and opened a pharmacy in February 2026. Additionally, the launch of Care360, a tech-enabled platform designed to help manage chronic GI conditions, represents a significant step in delivering innovative care. Furthermore, UD is enhancing its research efforts to increase the number of active studies and principal investigators within its network.
Dr. Patel expressed a clear vision for the future: "We are laser-focused on building a world-class GI platform through new clinics, ASC development, ancillary services, or the recruitment of outstanding clinicians. This comprehensive approach allows us to improve access and lower costs while maintaining the highest standards of care that define United Digestive and its partner practices."
