Artly AI Unveils Enhanced Robotic Hand Upgrade for Barista Bot at Nvidia GTC 2025
At the Nvidia GPU Technology Conference (GTC) 2025, Artly AI has made waves with the introduction of a state-of-the-art robotic hand upgrade for its Barista Bot, an innovative robot designed to assist in coffee preparation. This announcement not only highlights the advancement in robotic technology but also moves the company a step closer to achieving human-level dexterity in service automation.
A Leap in Coffee Automation
Artly has carved its niche in the restaurant and service industry by developing robots that automate various tasks, and the Barista Bot is a shining example of this innovation. Built on their proprietary Vision-Language-Action (VLA) AI model, the Barista Bot has been meticulously trained using motion capture data from master baristas. As a result, the robot can currently prepare 28 different hot and iced beverages, emulating the nuanced techniques of skilled human artisans.
However, despite its impressive performance, the original gripper system was limited, making it less adaptable for manipulating diverse objects essential for crafting coffee and other beverages. Addressing this challenge, Artly has developed a new robotic hand that replicates the intricate motions of a human hand with an astonishing 20 degrees of freedom.
Advancements in Design and Functionality
The upgraded robotic hand stands out with its advanced design that incorporates force feedback and high-precision tactile sensors. This enhancement allows the Barista Bot to delicately handle vulnerable items, such as glassware or teacups, while maintaining the ability to execute complex maneuvers like latte art finishing touches or the precise pouring of espresso shots.
To further enrich its functionalities, Artly is creating additional sensors tailored for specific food and beverage applications, including temperature sensors that ensure optimal drink preparation.
This enhanced dexterity means that the Barista Bot can swiftly adapt to an array of human-designed tools and objects, whether it’s stirring a spoon in a cup or placing items on a tray. The versatility of this robotic hand empowers the Barista Bot to seamlessly integrate into various settings such as coffee shops, restaurants, and event venues.
Extending Beyond Coffee
The utility of Artly’s robotic platform is not confined to just coffee-making. With the advanced hand upgrade, the Barista Bot can potentially slice fruit, mix cocktails, and manage glassware, making it suitable for busy venues and self-service stations in airports or events. The adaptability of this technology opens a pathway for quick training in sectors like healthcare and logistics where precision handling is essential.
“By enhancing the agility of our Barista Bot, we’ve bridged the gap between robotic precision and the artistry of human brewing techniques,” said Yushan Chen, Chief Operating Officer of Artly. “Our ultimate goal is to democratize culinary art, offering high-quality beverage experiences enhanced by automation.”
Experience It Live
During the GTC 2025 event, Artly is demonstrating this groundbreaking robotic hand at Microsoft’s exhibition booth (#514), providing attendees the opportunity to witness firsthand the future of coffee-making technology. Attendees can engage with the Barista Bot and experience the craftsmanship involved in each cup crafted by this advanced robotic system.
Artly was founded in 2020 and has since transformed the coffee industry, blending technological ingenuity with a strong passion for crafting artisan coffee. To date, Artly has secured over $10 million in funding, opened nine locations across the United States, and successfully served close to one million cups of coffee, generating over $5 million in revenue.
With a promising client portfolio featuring industry leaders such as Jump Trading, Microsoft, and Nvidia, Artly is strategically positioned to lead the automation sector in food and beverage service while preserving the artistry synonymous with each cup of coffee.
