Michael Robbins Appointed as President and CEO of SIA
The Semiconductor Industry Association (SIA) has officially announced the appointment of Michael Robbins as its new President and CEO, set to take on the role effective October 1, 2026. Robbins, who is transitioning from his current position as the leader of the Association for Uncrewed Vehicle Systems International (AUVSI), will be succeeding John Neuffer, who has served in this capacity for nearly 12 years. Neuffer will remain with the SIA through September to facilitate a seamless transition to Robbins.
A Seasoned Leader
Michael Robbins brings a wealth of experience to his new role. At AUVSI, he was instrumental in representing the interests of the world’s largest trade association focused on uncrewed systems, robotics, and autonomous technologies. His tenure included advocating for innovation across both the commercial and defense sectors. Robbins joined AUVSI in 2020 after serving as the organization’s chief advocacy officer, showcasing his capability in leading initiatives that represent significant industry interests.
Beyond his achievements at AUVSI, Robbins holds a notable background in public affairs and legislative advocacy. He previously co-founded a consulting firm named Intrepid, where he served as chief operating officer, demonstrating his entrepreneurial spirit. As a former managing director of government and public affairs at the Air Line Pilot Association, he managed critical areas such as aviation safety and communication, further showcasing his strength in navigating complex regulatory environments. Robbins’ career also includes a significant period spent working within the U.S. Congress, specifically serving as chief of staff for the late Congressman John D. Dingell.
Dr. Lisa Su, Chair and CEO of AMD and 2026 Chair of SIA’s board, expressed confidence in Robbins's leadership at a critical juncture for the semiconductor industry. “Michael joins SIA at an important moment for our industry,” Su noted, “as semiconductors have never been more essential to the global economy.” She continues to highlight that Robbins possesses the vision and experience necessary to strengthen the U.S. semiconductor ecosystem while accelerating future innovations.
A Vision for Innovation
In his own words, Robbins stated, “It is a privilege to join SIA and represent an industry that is foundational to America’s economic strength and technology leadership.” He emphasized the essential role of semiconductors across various sectors, including artificial intelligence, healthcare, and national security, and he expressed eagerness to work on policies that enhance America’s competitive edge in chip technology.
Neuffer, who has provided a strong foundation for the SIA during his tenure, praised Robbins’s selection and expressed confidence in his ability to lead amid challenging and transformative times. “Michael has the knowledge and background to be an outstanding leader and advocate for the semiconductor industry during this intensely consequential time,” he stated.
Looking Ahead
As the semiconductor industry becomes increasingly vital in global technology and economic discussions, Robbins’s leadership is expected to steer SIA into its next chapter effectively. The SIA, representing the vast majority of the U.S. semiconductor industry by revenue and a significant portion of non-U.S. chip companies, plays a critical role in advocating for policies that enhance innovation and global competitiveness.
The future looks promising for SIA under Robbins's direction, focusing on not just maintaining, but advancing America's pivotal role in the semiconductor sector. With his commitment to fostering collaboration between industry leaders and government entities, Robbins will likely make a substantial impact on the semiconductor landscape in the coming years.
The Semiconductor Industry Association stands as a crucial voice within the semiconductor industry, essential for America's ongoing economic vitality and technological advancement. Under Robbins’s guidance, stakeholders are optimistic about the prospects for growth and innovation in this key sector. For further updates and information on the semiconductor industry, visit
