Fukuoka City Embraces Innovative Solar Technology

The primary goal of this initiative is to implement a pioneering model for energy self-sufficiency within urban environments. Fukuoka City aims to be at the forefront of this movement by facilitating the early adoption of film-type perovskite solar batteries—technology that allows for more efficient solar energy harnessing and usage. By doing so, the city is taking significant strides towards reducing its carbon footprint while exploring the long-term viability of these innovative energy solutions.

Project Details


The project involves two main aspects:
1. Proactive Installation in Municipal Facilities
The aim is to install the new solar technology in approximately three municipal sites.
2. Comprehensive Potential Research
This involves examining the integration of next-generation solar batteries in existing urban buildings, including those owned by the municipality.

Implementation Highlights


One notable aspect of this initiative is the planned installation of the solar batteries on the roof of Kashiihama Elementary School's gymnasium. This installation will cover approximately 200 square meters, making it one of the largest of its kind on metal roofs across the nation. To strengthen its capabilities as an evacuation center, battery storage will also be included alongside this solar setup.

Demonstration Efforts


In addition to Kashiihama Elementary, the project will feature a demonstration installation at the Fukuoka Growth Next (FGN) facility. Here, the solar batteries will be integrated with waterproofing materials to ensure their resilience. They will be utilized to provide power for consumption within the building, showcasing practical applications of this new technology.
