Ontario International Airport Marks Milestone of Growth
In a remarkable achievement, Ontario International Airport (ONT) has reported a continuous growth streak of 50 months in passenger numbers. This upward trend was announced at a recent meeting of the Ontario International Airport Authority (OIAA) Board of Airport Commissioners. April 2025 saw a total of
575,623 passengers, marking a
0.4% increase compared to April 2024.
Consistent Growth Since 2021
The growth at Ontario International Airport has been steady since March 2021. This April, domestic passengers accounted for
539,067, also reflecting a
0.4% increase, while international travelers numbered at
36,556, which is a
0.6% rise from the previous year.
During the first four months of 2025, ONT welcomed over
2 million air travelers, which is a
0.5% increase compared to the same period in 2024. The domestic passenger volume rose by
1% to
1.9 million, although there was a slight
4.7% decrease in international travelers, totaling
151,364. This indicates a shift in travel preferences, with more focus on domestic flights.
Airline Partnerships and New Routes
Atif Elkadi, CEO of OIAA, highlighted that airline partners continue to show confidence in ONT, which has contributed to the increase in seats offered by
8%. This summer, passengers can expect easier travel to and from Ontario as airlines are adding new routes and expanding services. Notably, Southwest Airlines and United Airlines will initiate daily flights to Baltimore/Washington (BWI) and Chicago/O'Hare (ORD), respectively.
Additionally,
STARLUX Airlines will commence new international service to Taipei (TPE) starting June 2, 2025, while
Volaris plans to offer multiple flights to various destinations in Mexico, including Los Cabos (SJD).
Air Cargo Growth
The airport has also seen impressive air cargo growth, boasting a significant
16.6% increase in April compared to the previous year. Moreover, freight shipments slightly declined by
0.8%, but mail volume surged by an astounding
437%. From January to April, air cargo tonnage was
10% greater than in the same period last year, highlighting a robust demand among cargo shippers.
