A Cultural Celebration of Kalo at GINZA SIX
This July, GINZA SIX will feature a thrilling pop-up event spotlighting
Kalo, a unique shochu crafted from Hawaii's sacred taro root. Taro has held great importance in Hawaiian culture, appearing in ancient myths, making this beverage not just a drink, but a piece of history and culture. After six years in the making, Kalo is set to launch in Japan on
July 30, 2025, following the successful export of 6,000 bottles to Hawaii.
The Essence of Kalo
Kalo is a bridge between two worlds: the wonders of Hawaii and the refined traditions of Japanese sake brewing. Coming from two distinguished breweries, each producer brings a unique flavor profile influenced by their distinct methods of production. This variety allows Kalo enthusiasts to appreciate the differences in taste that stem from the same base ingredient. Moreover, inside each brewery, variations in yeast strains and aging processes have resulted in a fascinating array of products that reflect diverse brewing techniques and craftsmanship.
At the pop-up event, visitors will be able to sample and purchase
15 different Kalo products. These tastings include traditional Hawaiian seasonings—like chocolate and spices—that pair exquisitely with the shochu. Attendees can also purchase special vessels designed specifically for enjoying Kalo. Workshops featuring special guests involved in Kalo’s creation, including producers and ceramic artists, are slated to take place throughout the event.
