The certification program is one of the many efforts by the Japan Recycle Carpet Association to promote carpet recycling in the country. Founded officially on November 1, 2023, coinciding with "Carpet Day," the association has been actively engaged in carpet recycling initiatives for almost two decades. The member companies have successfully recycled approximately 60 million square meters (30,000 tons) of carpet, contributing to a more sustainable environment.
Sustainable Practices
Currently, the annual carpeting use in Japan involves around 5 million square meters, which represents about 20% of the market circulation of tile carpets. The success of this recycling initiative is attributed to the collaborative efforts between different stakeholders, including manufacturers, consumers, and recyclers. This cooperative ecosystem is designed to ensure that carpets can be reused and repurposed effectively, minimizing waste and promoting environmental sustainability.
The association brings together these four key players: users, collectors, recyclers, and manufacturers, providing a unified platform for their interaction. This interconnected network not only enhances the efficiency of recycling processes but also encourages innovation within the industry.
Looking Ahead
As the Japan Recycle Carpet Association continues to expand its certification program and introduce new products, it remains committed to its mission of promoting carpet recycling across the nation. The ongoing growth of their certified product offerings symbolizes a positive trend in sustainable manufacturing practices, and it illustrates the potential impact of collective efforts in preserving the environment.

This approach supports the vision of a greener, more sustainable future for all carpet products in Japan.
