Understanding Nature Positivity: Insights from the Global Nature Positive Summit 2026

In 2022, a landmark agreement was reached among 196 countries regarding the Kunming-Montreal Global Biodiversity Framework (GBF), which set the ambitious goal of halting biodiversity loss and restoring natural ecosystems by 2030. To accelerate private sector involvement, the Nature Positive Initiative (NPI) was launched in 2023, paving the way for the inaugural Global Nature Positive Summit held in Sydney in 2024.

The forthcoming Global Nature Positive Summit 2026 was convened in July to coincide with the upcoming 17th meeting of the Conference of the Parties to the Convention on Biological Diversity (COP17) in Armenia. This event highlights the critical contributions from businesses, finance sectors, and local governments towards achieving worldwide biodiversity goals and marks the first major international conference on biodiversity in 16 years since COP10 in Japan in 2010.

Japan shines as a forefront nation in this movement, boasting the highest number of companies supporting the Taskforce on Nature-related Financial Disclosures (TNFD). The government’s Nature Positive Economic Transition Strategy encourages businesses to adapt positively toward nature. However, opportunities to gain firsthand insights into global discussions and advanced enterprises’ initiatives abroad can be scarce.
