NOK and Nittokagaku Join Forces at Sewage Expo '26 Tokyo
From August 4 to 7, 2026, NOK Corporation, headquartered in Tokyo, and Nittokagaku Kogyo Co., Ltd., based in Saitama, will display their innovative products at the "Sewage Expo '26 Tokyo". This collaboration marks their second consecutive year of participation. At the event held at Tokyo Big Sight, NOK will showcase three cutting-edge products that aim to improve the safety of work environments and address the challenges in managing public infrastructure.
The Groundbreaking Detection Rubber
One of the standout products being unveiled is the newly developed "Ammonia and Hydrogen Sulfide Detection Rubber". This special rubber provides a visual indication of the presence of odorless gases, specifically ammonia and hydrogen sulfide, through color changes. When exposed to ammonia, the rubber turns a deep blue, while exposure to hydrogen sulfide changes its color to black. This product requires no power supply or maintenance and can be easily installed by simply adhering or placing it in the desired location, allowing inspectors to quickly ascertain the types and levels of gas present.
As aging sewage infrastructure continues to deteriorate, identifying the presence of harmful gases like hydrogen sulfide and ammonia has become increasingly important. These invisible gases can lead to unpleasant odors and pipe corrosion, making it critical for maintenance teams to have effective tools for monitoring. By visualizing these gases, NOK’s detection rubber helps improve inspection efficiency and safety during operational tasks.
Additional Featured Products
In addition to the detection rubber, NOK will also feature:
- - Recycled Rubber Coaster with Local Manhole Designs: A product that repurposes rubber scrap generated during the manufacturing process, transformed into coasters showcasing designs of local manholes. This innovative product reflects NOK’s commitment to sustainability and is aimed at local governments for promotional use.
- - Hydrogen Sulfide Detection Rubber: Another version designed to indicate the presence of hydrogen sulfide through irreversible color changes. It is waterproof and can be easily suspended in manhole environments, making it ideal for short-term surveys prior to extensive investigations.
Nittokagaku's Contributions
Nittokagaku will also present important tools at the expo, including:
- - Hydrogen Sulfide Indicator: This fast-acting indicator can perform short-term checks on hydrogen sulfide levels, complementing NOK's long-term monitoring solutions for comprehensive gas management.
- - Oil Leak Detection Indicator, "Lowuma Mark®": A straightforward, adhesive product that visualizes oil leaks through color changes, facilitating preventive maintenance and efficiency in operational workflows.
- - Thermal Labels, "Thermo Label®": Temperature-sensitive labels that change color upon reaching designated temperatures, providing an effortless way to monitor temperature history without the need for batteries or special tools.
