The Grand Finale of the Hinotori Project Set to Ignite Tokyo
The exciting conclusion of the Hinotori Project, titled "HINOTORI 火の鳥・山の神篇/海の神篇," will be showcased in Tokyo from October 11 to 14, 2025. Hosted by SAI Co., Ltd and the Bridge for Arts and Education non-profit organization, this event takes place at the Nakano ZERO Large Hall in Nakano City, Tokyo. Tickets are currently available via Confetti, operated by Longrun Planning Co., Ltd.
A Multicultural Artistic Collaboration
Under the direction of Hiroshi Koike, a celebrated artist known for debuting works in 42 countries, this production embodies a diverse gathering of artists. Drawing inspiration from productions in Poland, Malaysia, and Brazil since the project's inception in 2022, "HINOTORI" propels audiences to contemplate the "possibilities of our future" through the ancient legend of the Phoenix, a symbol of death and resurrection.
The performance integrates various art forms, including theater, dance, music, visual art, and multimedia, forming a cohesive experience that represents a singular living entity. Adding depth to the performance is a captivating array of music that reflects various cultural influences.
A Symphony of Cultures Unfolds on Stage
Renowned musicians from Poland, Malaysia, Brazil, and Japan will unite, showcasing the unique sounds of traditional Japanese Gagaku, Indian classical music, rap, Brazilian Berimbau, Polish jazz clarinet, and Japanese jazz trumpet. This amalgamation of musical genres creates a vibrant tapestry of sound, dynamically shaping the stage with its intricate interplay.
On stage, the performance is characterized by the fusion of classical arts—Noh actors, traditional Japanese dancers, Javanese dancers, and contemporary artists—intertwining six languages: Japanese, English, Polish, Javanese, Mandarin, and Portuguese. The physicality of art transcends cultural and linguistic barriers, delivering a direct appeal to the audience's senses.
Through international collaboration with multicultural artists, the production explores universal themes such as "Body and Language," "Myth and Modernity," and "Death and Rebirth." The urgency of the contemporary world is woven throughout the performance, addressing challenges like artificial earthquakes, power imbalances, and urban collapse, reflecting a parallel reality that resonates with current issues.
A Call for Reflection in a Chaotic Era
As we grapple with pressing issues like AI, pandemics, and geopolitical risks, "HINOTORI" serves as a platform to reexamine the meaning of our existence. The project aims to forge bridges across boundaries—geographical, linguistic, genre, and temporal—pointing towards a hopeful, interconnected future.
