Envision Energy Joins AEA Ammonia Certification System to Boost Clean Ammonia Trade

Envision Energy Joins AEA Ammonia Certification System

Envision Energy, a leading global player in green technology, has officially announced its entry into the pilot phase of the Association of Ammonia Energy (AEA) Ammonia Certification System. This innovative certification program is designed to facilitate transparent and reliable international trade of low-emission ammonia.

The AEA’s Ammonia Certification System is voluntary and enables producers, traders, and consumers to demonstrate crucial environmental attributes such as carbon footprint and origin by using independently verified data. The AEA’s Ammonia Registry, developed and operated by MiQ, provides participants with a digital infrastructure that ensures secure data transfer, transparency, and traceability throughout the ammonia supply chain—from the certification generation to its trading and retirement.

This pilot program features three distinct models of custody chain management: segregated, mass balance, and registry and claim models. Envision Energy has opted for the registry and claim model to address logistical challenges associated with long-distance physical deliveries and to promote the growth of a global green ammonia market. This model allows the transfer of environmental attributes without the need for physical transportation, effectively reducing costs and emissions while decoupling green attributes from the physical supply chain.

Similar models are already in operation in renewable energy and sustainable aviation fuel (SAF), marking a significant first for ammonia.

Frank Yu, Senior Vice President of Envision Energy, expressed enthusiasm about joining the AEA’s Ammonia Certification System. He stated, “We are excited to leverage the registry and claim functionality to enhance the global distribution of verified low-emission molecules. This enables our clients to decarbonize their operations with confidence, regardless of their geographical proximity to our production centers, accelerating the adoption of green ammonia as a cost-effective, net-zero emissions commodity.”

Trevor Brown, the CEO of AEA, welcomed Envision as one of the initial participants in the pilot program. He stated, “We are pleased to have Envision onboard and look forward to showcasing how the robust custody chain models of our system can meet the diverse needs of customers in the burgeoning low-emission ammonia markets across the Asia-Pacific region.”

In a significant milestone, Envision completed its first comprehensive commercial delivery of green ammonia from its Net Zero Industrial Park in Chifeng, China, to the Port of Ulsan, South Korea, in March 2026. This marked the validation of the entire value chain, from renewable energy firms to complex international maritime logistics.

In July 2025, Envision officially opened the world's largest and most advanced AI-driven green hydrogen and ammonia production plant, with an annual capacity of 320,000 tons, achieving optimization and stability at an industrial scale in real-time.

Frank Yu is set to present Envision’s projects and its participation in the AEA Ammonia Certification System pilot program at the 2026 World Hydrogen Summit in Rotterdam, Netherlands, on May 19, during a roundtable moderated by Trevor Brown of AEA.
