Opioid Summit 2025: Supporting Veterans and Communities

The Northeast Delta Human Services Authority (NEDHSA) is gearing up for its highly anticipated Opioid Summit, scheduled for August 5, 2025, at the Bayou Pointe Event Center located within the University of Louisiana Monroe. This important gathering will run from 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. and is centered around the theme, “From Service to Support: Healing Veterans and Communities from the Opioid Crisis.”

As opioid addiction advances as a serious concern affecting various demographics, this summit aims to provide vital resources and share best practices that can aid in the recovery of both veterans and community members. NEDHSA remains committed to ensuring that those who have served in the military, along with local residents, have access to effective support systems as they navigate the complexities of opioid misuse and recovery.

Dr. Monteic A. Sizer, the Executive Director of NEDHSA, emphasizes the necessity of this summit by stating, “We must continue to lead the charge in identifying and reducing the impact of opioid addiction in northeast Louisiana.” He stresses that the summit will serve as a platform for collaboration among community leaders, health professionals, and local advocates to share resources and insights aimed at combating opioid addiction.

Another key figure at the conference will be Ms. Althea Williams, the inspiring founder and president of the She Vets It Foundation, Inc. As a combat-disabled Army veteran and advocate for women veterans, Williams seeks to amplify the voices of those who have served. She also hosts the She Vets It Podcast, where she dialogues with veterans and community advocates, sharing stories that inspire and empower.

In addition to these speakers, a variety of other professionals from different backgrounds will engage attendees on topics related to opioid crises, recovery strategies, and community support. For instance, Chad Willis, Clinical Coordinator for The Hero Program, and Dr. Avius Carroll will contribute their expertise, ensuring that the discussions are both comprehensive and impactful.
