On May 21, 2025, McKinsey & Company will host a press conference to commemorate the release of McKinsey Energy Competitive Strategy, published by Nikkei Publishing. This book presents a multifaceted analysis of the challenges and strategic choices Japan faces in its pursuit of carbon neutrality by 2050.

The publication focuses on the core issues surrounding Japan's energy transition, addressing the critical balance between decarbonization and stable energy supply. It outlines the roles of renewable energy, nuclear power, and the restructuring of power systems alongside next-generation technologies and institutional reforms. The goal is to propose a sustainable and economically viable pathway towards an energy transition.

Yoshitaka Uryuda, Partner

Yoshitaka Uryuda is a core leader in the Electricity and Gas Group in Japan. He specializes in formulating comprehensive strategies for energy firms across the entire energy value chain and supports clients in upstream and downstream sectors, focusing on sales growth and cost optimization through digital analytics. He holds a Master's degree in Aerospace Engineering from the University of Tokyo.

Tatsumasa Itahashi, Partner

Also a core leader in the Electricity and Gas Group, Tatsumasa Itahashi has extensive experience in supporting large-scale organizational transformations, risk management advancements, and new business creation for a broad range of companies within the energy, trading, and heavy electrical sectors. He completed his graduate studies in Fundamental Engineering at Keio University.

Yutaro Kakimoto, Senior Partner

Yutaro Kakimoto leads the Energy, Materials, and Infrastructure Group in Japan, along with the Marketing and Sales Group. He is deeply involved in organizational transformation covering strategy, business, digital analytics, and corporate culture. With a wealth of experience in revenue growth, cash creation, cost optimization, and capability building, he earned his degree in Philosophy, Politics, and Economics from the University of Oxford.
