Beyond Type 1 Celebrates 10 Years

On November 15, 2025, Beyond Type 1, the esteemed nonprofit co-founded by famous musician Nick Jonas and Juliet de Baubigny, commemorated a decade of transformative impact with a grand event titled Beyond Limits at New York City's historic Ziegfeld Theater. This milestone evening drew over 400 guests, including prominent figures and advocates from the diabetes community.

The celebratory night highlighted significant accomplishments over the last ten years, while also announcing exciting plans for the future. Celebrated sports reporter Adam Schefter and the Jonas Brothers added glittering celebrity presence to the evening, which also marked the 20th anniversary of Jonas's own Type 1 diabetes diagnosis.

During the event, co-founders Nick Jonas and Juliet de Baubigny took the stage to express the importance of their initiative. • - Innovator in Science & Technology Award went to Dr. Per-Ola Carlsson, whose groundbreaking research pushes the boundaries toward a cure for diabetes.
• - The Tech Impact Award recognized Justin Eastzer for simplifying diabetes technology for public understanding.
• - Max Stenbeck Global Hero Award was presented to Geethanjali Rangaswamy from India, who has made significant efforts in fighting stigma and advocating for those living with diabetes.

As Deborah Dugan, CEO of Beyond Type 1, reflected on the evening’s success, she remarked, “Since day one, Beyond Type 1 has amplified the voices of the diabetes community because storytelling sparks connection, collaboration and change.” Dugan reinforced the organization’s commitment to forming bold partnerships to drive real impact.

Expanding Reach with Beyond Barriers

The funds raised during the Beyond Limits event are earmarked for the Beyond Barriers initiative, intended to enhance diabetes care in under-resourced communities. This program plans to extend its reach significantly over the next decade, especially in areas with high incidences of diabetes among children, such as India.

The need is urgent, as diabetes affects low-income and minority populations disproportionately. With more than 75% of adults battling diabetes residing in low- and middle-income countries where healthcare access is limited, the organization emphasizes their mission to bridge these gaps through innovative grants, early detection programs, and educational initiatives.

In the past year, the initiative has reached nearly 5 million people globally, including 1.9 million in the U.S. and 3 million in pilot programs conducted in India. Notable grants have been distributed to various innovating projects, demonstrating Beyond Type 1’s commitment to supporting community-centric solutions.

Reflecting on 10 Years of Success

Since its inception in 2015, Beyond Type 1 has redefined the narrative surrounding diabetes. The organization now boasts the world’s largest digital diabetes community, having impacted over 200 million people through educational resources, scholarships, and pioneering programs designed to save lives.
