In an announcement that marks a significant change in the Texas real estate landscape, Travis Kessler, the
President and Chief Executive Officer of Texas REALTORS®, has confirmed that he will retire on March 31, 2025.
Leading the organization since 2010, Kessler has been instrumental in expanding its membership from 75,000 to an impressive 155,000. His leadership has been characterized by a commitment to professional development and advocacy that enhances public policy for property owners across Texas.

Kessler expressed deep gratitude for his time at the helm, stating, "It has been an absolute privilege to serve in leadership roles for such a vital organization for so many years. I have full confidence in the direction we’re headed. The organization is in good hands with Mike Barnett as my successor."

Taking over on April 1, 2025, Mike Barnett currently serves as the Executive Vice President of Texas REALTORS® and brings with him a wealth of experience. His notable 18 years within the organization has equipped him with crucial insights in political and legislative affairs, strategic planning, and financial management—qualities that stakeholders believe will facilitate a seamless transition. Kessler lauded Barnett’s readiness for the role, emphasizing his caring nature and extensive industry experience that encapsulates the core values of Texas REALTORS®.

Reflecting on his long career, Kessler has enjoyed a robust professional journey spanning nearly five decades in real estate, which has seen him leading two local REALTOR® associations and being recognized on the Swanepoel Power 200 list for nine consecutive years. Jef Conn, the 2024 Chairman of Texas REALTORS®, praised Kessler as a leader whose efforts have guided REALTORS® and their clients in Texas towards lasting success.
