Midea Showcases R290 Technology at IFA 2026

At the IFA 2026 exhibition held in Berlin, Midea unveiled its latest range of green and sustainable solutions for heating, ventilation, air conditioning, and energy management. This initiative underscores the company's dedication to its "Green Vision, Blue Future" campaign, focusing on harmonizing environmental responsibility with consumer comfort.

Leading with R290 Technology

Midea has long been recognized as a trailblazer in air conditioning systems utilizing the natural refrigerant R290. Over the past 16 years, the company has continually refined the performance and safety technologies associated with these compressors. The benefits of R290 are impressive, with a significantly low Global Warming Potential (GWP), nearly zero CO2 emissions, and energy efficiency that exceeds conventional systems by approximately 10%.

Visitors to Midea's booth enjoyed a unique transparent model showcasing the technology in action. This demonstration highlighted how Midea combines environmental stewardship with high operational performance.

Since 2018, Midea has sold over 10 million R290 air conditioning units worldwide, contributing to a reduction of approximately 5.2 million tons of carbon emissions. This impact is comparable to the carbon absorption of 6.2 million hectares of the Amazon rainforest.

Innovative Products on Display

Among the cutting-edge solutions Midea presented was the new generation H-Pack indoor heat pump, developed by its European R&D team. This innovative unit is designed exclusively for indoor use, eliminating the need for an outdoor unit, thereby addressing concerns related to outdoor noise, installation space, and construction restrictions. The system also simplifies maintenance with its user-friendly design and remote diagnostics, minimizing service visits and maintenance costs.

Additionally, Midea showcased the PortaSplit system, designed to offer easy installation alongside high performance and low noise levels. Users can expect to install this product by 2027, utilizing R290 refrigerant to maintain an optimal indoor environment effortlessly.

Midea's recently launched VitaBreeze system received the prestigious IFA 2026 Technology Innovation Award for its remarkable air flow management capabilities. Ralph Kobsik, CEO of Midea Europe GmbH, accepted the award, highlighting the unit's advanced "AirGrid" technology, which maps room layouts for precise air flow control through smartphones. The system also features person-presence detection and a Breezeless Pro technology that broadens air flow coverage by 30%, ensuring consistent comfort without unpleasant drafts.

Energy Management Systems

To enhance energy efficiency in homes, Midea introduced Raynor Pro, a top-tier heating product specifically engineered for northern climates. This unit can operate at temperatures as low as -40°C while maintaining 100% heating capacity at -25°C, achieving an A+++ energy efficiency rating for both heating and cooling. It has also garnered an iF Design Award for its distinctive design developed by Midea’s Milan-based design team.

To complement these innovations, Midea displayed MHELIOS, a smart energy management system capable of optimizing energy storage and consumption according to dynamic electricity pricing. This system reduces costs and contributes to grid stability by integrating electric vehicle chargers, heat pumps, solar systems, and battery storage to maximize the use of clean energy while enhancing household comfort.

Through these advancements in sustainable refrigerants, intelligent heating and cooling systems, and integrated energy management, Midea continues to demonstrate how technology can effectively align environmental accountability with everyday comfort, supporting Europe's long-term sustainability goals at the same time.
