Major Highlights from the Hexagon XCT User Conference
On October 22, 2025, Hexagon Manufacturing Intelligence hosted the much-anticipated
Hexagon | XCT | User Conference at the Nagoya Marriott Associa Hotel. This year's conference drew over 150 participants, the highest number to date, including users of VG products and X-ray CT system manufacturers. The event has taken place every two years since 2015, providing an invaluable platform for sharing the latest market trends and advancements in the industrial X-ray CT sector.
Keynote Address on Digital Engineering
One of the highlights of the conference was the keynote address by Professor
Yutaka Otake from the University of Tokyo, a leading authority in the field. His presentation focused on the theme of utilizing X-ray CT in digital engineering, where he shared insights into practical applications within the industry and explored the possibilities for future developments.
User Presentations Showcasing Innovation
During the user presentations,
Yusuke Ito from Mitsubishi Electric’s Nagoya Production System Promotion Division discussed the establishment of evaluation techniques for molded products using measurement CT. His case study, detailing a novel approach to assessing molded items, sparked considerable interest among attendees and offered valuable insights from the user’s perspective about future device and software developments.
Another compelling talk came from
Sugawara of
Tsukishima Kikai, who presented on using X-ray CT to evaluate food products. He illustrated how the company employed X-ray imaging to analyze the internal structure of items like cream puffs and croissants using the
VGSTUDIO MAX software. This analysis revealed the critical structural elements contributing to the texture of the products, much to the fascination of the audience, who expressed surprise at the application of X-ray CT technology in the food industry.
Sponsorship by Leading X-ray CT Manufacturers
The conference featured sponsorship from a dozen leading X-ray CT manufacturers and service providers. Each showcased their latest products and initiatives, drawing significant attention to their exhibits. Notable gold sponsors included
Comet Technologies Japan,
Shimadzu Corporation,
Toshiba Unified Technologies,
Nikon, and
Hitachi High-Technologies, among others.
Latest Trends from Europe
Daniela Handel, responsible for the research and development of VG products at Hexagon’s German base, shared a video message on the latest trends in CT technology across Europe. She discussed innovative technologies and applications in the European market, including Hexagon’s new technology
GelSight, which demonstrates promising possibilities for measuring the surface roughness of products and components.
Features of VGSTUDIO MAX
The VG Solutions Support Team elaborated on the functionalities of the
VGSTUDIO MAX industrial X-ray CT analysis software, emphasizing its newly introduced version 2025.3. Attendees were keen to learn about the latest features, demonstrating a strong commitment to utilizing these advancements in their work processes.
Enhancements with Award-winning Tools
The latest version of
VGSTUDIO MAX integrates an enhanced version of the iF Design Award-winning system for detecting defects and inclusions, known as
PIA. This tool has garnered attention across automotive, aerospace, and other manufacturing sectors for its ability to accurately identify anomalies from the early development stages to the final production process. Moreover, leveraging AI-driven detection technology allows for effective quality management even in high-volume inspections.
Jan Glaser, the product manager for Hexagon's VG product line, remarked, "Our integrated tool is the first of its kind to unify analysis and reporting processes into one powerful solution. We've redesigned the user interface for accessibility, making it easier for both novices and experts to effectively use PIA for their analyses."
