Launch of "Forest Circular Economy" Online Seminar

In July 2025, the Platinum Initiative, a non-profit organization based in Chiyoda, Tokyo, will host an online seminar titled "Creating the Future Through Forest Circularity" to commemorate the launch of its new web media, Forest Circular Economy. This initiative, led by President Hiroshi Komiyama, aims to enhance the utilization of forest resources in a sustainable, circular manner while simultaneously addressing decarbonization, economic security, regional revitalization, and the cultivation of forest culture.

This seminar will take place on July 10, 2025, from 1:00 PM to 5:00 PM JST via Zoom. Participants will have the chance to hear from influential speakers who are leading the charge in advancing forest circularity.

Event Schedule (Preliminary)

1:00 PM - Opening Remarks: Accelerating Forest Circularity

• - Hiroshi Komiyama, Chairman of the Platinum Initiative

In this session, Komiyama will discuss the significance of forest circularity and the goals of the new media initiative launched in May 2023.

1:30 PM - The Three Pillars of the Forest Circular Economy

• - Yoshiko Tsuji, Professor at the University of Tokyo's Center for Environmental Safety
• - Yasuhisa Kobayashi, President of Alpha Forum Co., Ltd.
• - Hiroyuki Adachi, Executive Director of Shelter Co., Ltd.
• - Taro Kamagata, Advisor at the Platinum Initiative

This panel will focus on three core elements crucial to forest circularity: biomass chemicals, wooden cities, and forestry practices, discussing both their current status and future prospects.

3:00 PM - Community Revitalization through Forest Circularity

• - Hikari Takahashi, President of Franzwood Co., Ltd.
• - Yasuhiro Numa, Secretary General of the Tsuyama Industry Support Center
• - Sachi Amano, Executive Director of Diverse Line
• - Toshihiro Koizumi, Mayor of Komoro City

This session will delve into how forest resources can stimulate industrial development, improve environmental conditions through conservation, and invigorate local communities.

4:30 PM - Closing Section: Celebrating the Wonders of Forest Resources

• - Hiroshi Yokota, CEO of Tokuyama Co., Ltd.

The seminar will conclude with a retrospective on the potential of forest resources in shaping sustainable futures.

5:00 PM - Closing Remarks

• - Kaoru Sumitomo, Editor-in-Chief of Forest Circular Economy

Sumitomo will provide a brief conclusion and express gratitude for media support.
