Huawei's AI WAN Initiative Propels IP Networks into the Intelligent Era, Enhancing Services

Huawei Ushers in the Intelligent Era of IP Networks

At the recent MPLS & SRv6 AI Net World Congress 2025 held on March 24, Huawei hosted a significant forum titled "AI WAN Leading IP Networks into the Intelligent Era." This summit attracted telecommunications operators, standardization organizations, and industry leaders, all eager to explore the transformative potential of AI WAN for IP networks.

The event highlighted substantial contributions from major operators like Telecom Argentina and Turkcell Türkiye, who shared their innovative practices revolving around the deployment of IP networks. At the heart of discussions was Huawei’s revolutionary AI WAN solution, aiming to enhance the capabilities of IP networks through smart technology integrations. The collaboration among IPv6 Forum, World Broadband Association (WBBA), and various telecom entities signals a dedicated effort towards innovation in IP networks and services.

Addressing Current Challenges in Telecom

In his opening remarks, Zuo Meng, President of Huawei Router Domain within the Data Communication Product Line, identified critical issues faced by operators today. These challenges include stagnating growth of traditional services, a slow rollout of novel services, intricate network structures, and soaring costs that all point to the urgent need for next-generation networks.

"Implementing AI across operational, maintenance, connection, and routing domains enables operators to expand network capabilities and enhance value," Zuo stated. This perspective is echoed across the industry as operators grapple with the demands of a rapidly evolving technological landscape.

Latif Ladid, President of the IPv6 Forum, emphasized the necessity of integrating AI into network infrastructure, asserting that initiatives like AI WAN are essential for future advancements. To facilitate this transformation, the IPv6 Forum has launched a program designed to accelerate the deployment of SRv6 technologies. Huawei has emerged as a pioneer in this area, with several of its devices already achieving the necessary certifications.

Innovations from Telecom Leaders

Santiago Costanzo, from Telecom Argentina, showcased their pivotal technologies for deploying innovative IP solutions in an AI-driven context. He pointed out that SRv6 is instrumental in streamlining end-to-end automation and achieving predictable latency across networks. The telecom sector is increasingly leaning on AI-driven solutions for simplifying network maintenance and operations while bolstering overall efficiency, thus adding significant value for their customers.

Durmus Mehmet, Deputy Director of IP/MPLS Core Networks at Turkcell, outlined the company's commitment to build ultra-broadband, autonomous, and reliable networks aimed at offering customers tailored services. He voiced support for the trajectory of AI WAN developments and expressed eagerness to collaborate with Huawei on innovations spurring energy savings and AI application identification.

Xu Huan, Vice President at Huawei, elaborated on the AI WAN solution's three-layer architecture comprising AI routers, new connections, and a new AI brain designed to facilitate operators in building networks with optimal total cost of ownership. Moreover, the solution promises to enhance service diversity while increasing operational efficiencies and driving revenue growth through new service offerings.

Highlighting the synergy of large and small AI models, Wu Qin, a network architect at Huawei, explained how these models collaborate to provide intelligent operations that expedite the transition to L4 autonomous networks, showcasing the future potential of network capabilities.

The event concluded with the launch of AI WAN initiatives aimed at fostering the evolution of innovation and deployment in IP networks, indicating a collective strategy to adapt to the digital landscape challenges. Huawei is set to advance its alliances with operators and industry partners to explore new markets and enhance business success, thus accelerating the rise of new services amidst this intelligent epoch.
