Local Government Fair 2026: A Hub of Innovation and Collaboration

The Local Government Fair 2026 commenced on July 8, 2026, at the Tokyo Big Sight's West Exhibition Halls 3 and 4, organized by the Japan Management Association, headquartered in Shibuya, Tokyo. This event, recognized as one of the largest platforms for public-private collaboration within Japan, will run until July 10, 2026. The opening day witnessed an impressive influx of visitors, including local government employees and industry representatives, creating a vibrant atmosphere right from the start.

This fair serves as a vital space for government officials, corporations, and non-profit organizations to engage through seminars, business negotiations at various booths, and networking opportunities. The last edition in 2025 saw over 8,648 attendees and participation from 354 entities spanning all 46 prefectures, indicating the high level of interest and engagement. The current fair opened with promising attendance numbers, and the schedule includes numerous seminars and special initiatives over the next days.

Highlights from Day One

Diverse Sessions with Esteemed Speakers

On the first day, attendees were treated to a variety of noteworthy sessions led by experts, including government policy officials and industry leaders. One of the key presentations was from the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry, delivered by Deputy Director Miyuki Nagayama, focusing on recent updates on industrial location policies. She elucidated the current state of domestic industrial land and essential points regarding legislative changes, particularly capturing the attention of participants interested in domestic business development and industrial infrastructure.

Moreover, discussions centered on the influence of generative AI on local governance and business were powered by speakers like Takayuki Fukatsu from THE GUILD, Masashi Kunisaki from miibo, and COO Mahiro Watanabe from StoryHub. This segment sparked vigorous dialogue among a packed audience, eager to understand how AI can reshape local administration and corporate strategy in practical terms.

Public-Private Collaboration Initiatives

The fair also introduced an experiential area dedicated to fostering interactions between local governments and businesses, enabling many fruitful exchanges and networking opportunities, notably through the Public-Private MEET Tokyo segment. Here, municipalities presented specific challenges they face, engaging business representatives in discussions about potential solutions. Additionally, the Regional Co-Creation Area showcased joint projects from local governments and businesses to highlight the impact of collaborative efforts, generating considerable interest among attendees. Lastly, the Regional Future Strategy Corner, supported by the Cabinet Office's Regional Future Strategy Headquarters, provided insights into collaborative plans and strategies aimed at enhancing local and national policy development.

The vibrancy in this interactive area reflected the event's purpose, positioning it as a key venue for collaboration and idea-sharing amongst stakeholders. Several partnerships and dialogues emerged, illustrating the fair's effectiveness in bridging gaps between public and private sectors.
