Trace Biosciences Secures Major Investment for Nerve Imaging Technology
Trace Biosciences, Inc., a biotechnology firm that specializes in clinical-stage development of nerve-targeted imaging agents, has successfully secured a strategic investment from Axogen, Inc. This investment, part of Trace Biosciences' Series A financing round, is a significant step forward in the clinical development of their innovative Nerve Trace imaging technology. The Nerve Trace technology utilizes near-infrared fluorescence imaging, which is designed to allow real-time visualization of nerves during surgical procedures. This capability is crucial, particularly in situations where nerves are hidden from view by surrounding tissues. This technology presents two major clinical benefits. Firstly, it enhances surgeons’ ability to identify and avoid nerve damage during complex surgeries. Secondly, in instances of nerve injury, it aids in precisely localizing and assessing the nerve, which bolsters surgical repair efforts.
As part of its ongoing developments, Trace Biosciences has initiated its Phase I clinical trial for its lead product, Nerve Trace Dx, following the FDA's clearance of its Investigational New Drug (IND) application in December 2025. The funds from Axogen's investment will be directed toward facilitating Trace’s subsequent Phase II and III clinical trials, leading to the eventual New Drug Application (NDA).
