Exciting Commemorative Event to Mark 100 Days to Tokyo 2025 Deaflympics
On November 15 this year, Japan will proudly host the inaugural Tokyo 2025 Deaflympics. To commemorate the exciting 100-day countdown, a special event titled
TOKYO FORWARD 2025: Tokyo 2025 Deaflympics 100 Days To Go! is scheduled for August 7, 2025 (Thursday), welcoming guests from 10:00 AM to 7:00 PM at the Futako Tamagawa Rise Galleria Studio & Hall, located in Setagaya, Tokyo.
This engaging event aims to immerse attendees in the world of silence through three beautifully curated experience zones: the
Miru Stage,
Miru Challenge, and
Miru-cation. Featuring prominent Deaf athletes and ambassadors such as Miyazon, Tomoeida Drum, and Sakurainoue, the event promises an exciting lineup that will delight both children and adults alike.
Experience Zones
1. Miru Stage
The
Miru Stage will offer an array of entertaining programs that allow participants to engage with the Deaflympics in a unique way. Expect rockin' performances and interactive sessions with special guests, celebrating the anticipation building up to the Deaflympics. 2. Miru Challenge
This area invites attendees to participate in Deaf sports and explore various communication methods. Try your hand at mastering
Sign-A-Lear, the new way to cheer for Deaf athletes!
Activities Include:
- - Def Table Tennis Challenge: Experience the exhilarating world of silent table tennis and perhaps even face off against Riko Kamezawa, a Deaf table tennis medalist!
- - Sign Language Art Workshop: Collaborate with artist Hidetaka Kado to create a unique piece inspired by sign language (two sessions: 11:30 AM & 3:30 PM).
- - Learn from Cheer Squad: Meet the cheer squad, who will teach you Sign-A-Lear, a fresh and visually-based cheering technique for Deaf athletes.
- - Universal Communication Technology Experience: Get hands-on with cutting-edge technologies designed to facilitate smooth communication such as next-gen hearing devices, Deaf VR experiences, and AI that translates sign language into text (Sure Talk).
3. Miru-cation
The
Miru-cation area will focus on understanding Deaflympics and enlightening others about the Deaf world.
Highlights Include:
- - Sign Language Workshop: Enjoy learning basic Japanese Sign Language with potential appearances from Deaf athletes as your teachers.
- - Deaf Market: A delightful shop where you can converse with attendants using sign language, featuring products like apple jam and snacks along with fun tie-dye experiences (at a nominal cost).
- - Send Messages to Athletes: Write supportive messages on tablets for the Deaflympic participants. You can download your heartfelt messages too!
- - Children’s Festival: Participate in traditional games like yo-yo fishing and ring toss.
- - 10-meter Start Light Challenge: Experience the excitement of Deaf athletics with a real start light used for races, offering a unique way to step into the competitive world of deaf sports.
