Lotte's Educational Initiatives at EDIX Tokyo
From May 13 to 15, 2023, Lotte participated in the largest educational exhibition in Japan, EDIX Tokyo, held at Tokyo Big Sight. This event highlighted Lotte's unique expertise and data-driven approaches to addressing the challenges in exploratory learning and digital transformation (DX) education, thereby launching a new initiative in food education.
Lotte aimed to engage with educators and showcase innovative programs that integrate real-world business experiences with educational curricula. One key highlight was the involvement of Lotte employees as instructors in various programs designed to enhance students' understanding of data utilization within a corporate context.
Featured Educational Programs
1.
Data Science Class (In collaboration with Macromill)
This program utilizes consumer purchasing history data from Macromill, covering 35,000 individuals across Japan. Students step into the role of Lotte's marketing team, analyzing when, what, how much, and at what price items were purchased. This immersive experience teaches strategic thinking crucial for business, guiding students from questioning to decision-making.
2.
Exploratory New Product Development Class
Here, participants learn Lotte’s actual product development methodology. They engage in everything from target setting and brainstorming to producing packaging and commercials, culminating in final presentations. By working on familiar snack products, students experience the process of creating new value from scratch, fostering their creative thought and logical reasoning skills—cornerstones of business acumen.
3.
Regional Revitalization Exploratory Class (Cooperation with Tokyu Corporation)
This collaborative program combines Lotte's product development expertise with Tokyu's insights on urban development. Educators provide students with perspectives on understanding localities deeply, allowing them to propose ideas for snacks that attract fans of the area using Lotte's methods. This practical explorative learning approach addresses regional challenges from multiple perspectives.
Addressing Educational Challenges
The need for transformative educational practices is pressing. Currently, schools face challenges, including a lack of resources for exploratory learning, a shortage of DX-capable personnel, and insufficient preparation time for teachers. Lotte aims to resolve these issues through its unique insights and capabilities, ensuring that education is closely tied to societal needs. Feedback from educators who have implemented Lotte’s programs highlights significant improvements in student engagement and motivation attributed to the involvement of a reputable company like Lotte.
