PSEG Long Island Celebrates Earth Month with Community Engagement Initiatives

PSEG Long Island Celebrates Earth Month with Free Trees

PSEG Long Island is taking significant steps to show their commitment to environmental conservation this Earth Month. Throughout April, the company is giving away free trees along with distributing energy-efficient LED light bulbs and reusable shopping bags. These efforts aim to promote sustainability and encourage residents to actively participate in protecting our planet.

Tree Giveaway Program

In collaboration with the Arbor Day Foundation and local sustainability initiatives, PSEG Long Island is contributing to a greener future by offering free trees to 500 residents. Recognizing the dual benefits of tree planting, President and COO Scott Jennings emphasized that strategically planted trees can lower home energy costs by nearly 20% in the summer. Trees not only help in energy conservation but also enhance air quality and mitigate stormwater runoff, illustrating a profound impact on both individual households and the broader community.

Starting April 1, residents of Suffolk and Nassau counties can reserve their trees through this link, which remains accessible until all trees are claimed. As Calvin Ledford, president of the PSEG Foundation stated, “Trees add beauty to neighborhoods and provide places of respite, along with many other benefits.” The initiative underscores the intersection of environmental health and community well-being, showcasing a responsibility to pave the way for eco-friendly practices.

Distribution of Energy-Saving Items

In addition to tree giveaways, PSEG volunteers will be active in the community throughout the month. The team will distribute reusable shopping bags and energy-efficient LED light bulbs. These items are not only practical but also serve as a reminder of the positive actions everyone can take to save both energy and money at home. The adoption of LED lighting reduces energy consumption significantly, contributing to a decrease in overall utility costs and fostering sustainable living.

This holistic approach by PSEG Long Island not only helps to elevate environmental awareness but also encourages community engagement, urging residents to participate actively in initiatives that support local ecosystems.

A Long-Term Commitment to Sustainability

PSEG Long Island operates under a long-term commitment to raising sustainability awareness and promoting eco-friendly practices amongst its customers. By integrating energy savings with environmental stewardship, the company is setting an example for others to follow. This Earth Month initiative encapsulates the broader mission of PSEG to transition towards a more sustainable energy future.

Residents are encouraged to take part in these programs, reflect on their environmental footprints, and get involved in planting trees, saving energy, and developing sustainable habits.
