ZOE Energy Storage Partners with Local Ally to Establish Saudi Arabia's First Battery Manufacturing Plant

ZOE Energy Storage's Landmark Joint Venture in Saudi Arabia

ZOE Energy Storage has taken a significant step forward in its mission to transform the energy landscape by signing a joint venture agreement with a local Saudi partner. This collaboration aims to establish Saudi Arabia's first world-class battery energy storage manufacturing facility, marking a crucial milestone in the Kingdom’s Vision 2030 initiative. The venture aligns with the country's push for technological advancement and clean energy solutions in the region.

Project Overview

The ambitious project will unfold in two stages. Phase I will see the construction of a plant capable of producing 6 gigawatt-hours (GWh) of energy storage systems, with operations set to commence in the first quarter of 2027. Following this, the planned Phase II is expected to enhance the facility's capacity to a remarkable 18 GWh. This expansion is vital for meeting the local demand for large-scale energy storage solutions and will help the Kingdom reduce its dependency on imports.

Arabia's robust transition to renewable energy is a core component of its broader energy strategy. By establishing this manufacturing base, ZOE aims to assist Saudi Arabia in achieving its ambitious targets of generating 130 gigawatts (GW) from renewable sources, alongside the goal of 48 GWh of energy storage capacity by 2030. Furthermore, it aims for a 50% clean energy generation target, effectively repositioning the country as a global clean energy hub.

State-of-the-Art Manufacturing Facility

Occupying an expansive 60-hectare site, the manufacturing plant will uphold the highest European manufacturing standards and will be certified as “Made in Saudi Arabia,” ensuring compliance with local network codes. The plant will supply not only Saudi Arabia but also services across the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) region, Middle East, North Africa, Central Asia, and even sub-Saharan Africa.

Additionally, ZOE plans to establish a Green Energy Academy on-site. This initiative aims to develop a skilled workforce skilled in the energy sector by providing certification and training programs, thereby ensuring the localization of essential expertise and building long-term capabilities within the community.

A Global Strategy

As ZOE Energy Storage's second international production center, following their facility in Hungary, this project forms a fundamental part of the company’s global strategy that integrates ZOE technology with local manufacturing capabilities and comprehensive services. It is engineered to withstand extreme desert climates, signaling its potential as a template for similar regions worldwide.

Huang Jun, President of ZOE Energy Group, emphasizes the importance of this venture by stating, “The Middle East is a key driver of the global energy transformation. This manufacturing base represents a pivotal step in our global strategy.” He reassures that ZOE will continue to deliver cutting-edge technology, unwavering quality, and comprehensive services to facilitate the region's energy transition, thus contributing to the shared creation of a new ecosystem for energy storage.

Conclusion

This partnership not only represents a significant milestone for ZOE in its pursuit of global energy transitions but also fortifies Saudi Arabia’s initiative towards achieving self-sufficiency in energy storage and advancing its green growth trajectory. As the Kingdom shifts from its traditional fossil fuel-based energy model to a more sustainable framework, ZOE Energy Storage stands at the forefront, ready to play a vital role in shaping a sustainable future for the region and the world.
