A Glimpse into the Future: Engisha's Poetic Drama of Hope and Peace

The Journey of Hope and Reconciliation with Engisha's Poetic Drama

Engisha's original lyrical drama, titled "In Search of the Lost Paradise," is set to grace the stage at Teurusikoru on August 1st and 2nd, 2025. This profound work reflects on the post-war era and the hope for humanity, capturing the emotional landscape of a fractured world through the eyes of children.

In the wake of the war, Japan has undergone rapid economic growth, transforming from a nation marked by the scars of conflict to one overflowing with wealth, people, goods, and information. Yet amid this apparent prosperity, many individuals, including myself, feel a subtle sense of suffocation in a society adorned with numerous laws and regulations, ostensibly promoting equality. Did our courageous ancestors envision this version of Japan? As an artist taking the stage, I feel compelled to earnestly express the sentiments that permeate our society today.

The narrative of "In Search of the Lost Paradise" unfolds in a dystopian future where nuclear war has brought humanity to its knees, leaving a frozen moment in time in the year 2035. Within a virtual realm, children exist in ignorance, guided only by a maternal figure, 'mother.' They embark on a quest to reclaim the lost realities of their world. Can they save humanity? What fate awaits these young souls as they navigate through their uncertain journey? This grand, speculative drama weaves together themes of anti-war sentiment and prayers for humanity, showcased through the powerful performances of four talented actors.

Engisha is comprised of a talented ensemble including Artistic Director and actor Masayasu Omura, along with Kaoru Taichi (32), Ren Nakamura (29), and Tara Mizukami (24), all based in Nagano Prefecture. They are dedicated to the creation of original stage art.

The central theme of their performances is encapsulated in the idea of "creating landscapes of life within empty spaces." They utilize minimal stage setups, transforming the bare stage into a vibrant canvas for storytelling. This approach maximizes the freedom of scene transitions unique to live theater, challenging the very essence of stage art through the charisma of the actors themselves.
