The Flamingo Estate Bathhouse: A Nature-Inspired Oasis at Milan Design Week 2026

Kohler, a brand synonymous with innovative design and craftsmanship, is set to unveil a stunning multi-sensory installation at the prestigious Milan Design Week 2026. In collaboration with Richard Christiansen, the visionary founder of Flamingo Estate, this exhibition promises to transport visitors into a tranquil world where the elements of architecture and nature harmoniously intertwine to foster renewal and reflection.

The Venue

The installation will be located in the idyllic courtyard of Padiglione d'Arte Contemporanea, during the much-anticipated Fuorisalone event. Guests will be greeted by a striking brutalist bathhouse that takes inspiration from the natural beauty and essence of the California hills, where the Flamingo Estate is nestled. This unique bathhouse features a Kohler-designed freestanding enameled cast iron bath, enveloped in a stunning copper shroud that reflects both elegance and architectural precision.

Visitors will appreciate how the installation resonates with its surroundings. Designed to merge with a meadow flourishing with wildflowers, the bathhouse draws on a natural palette of weathered metals and organic textures, embodying a philosophy that embraces nature's intrinsic beauty.

An Immersive Experience

At the heart of this installation is the Kohler Reverie bath, renowned for its breathtaking design that brings new life to traditional materials. The dramatic copper exterior captures sunlight streaming through massive stained-glass windows, creating a warm and inviting atmosphere. Adorning the walls of the bathhouse, 200 Flamingo Estate candles flicker gently, their light reflecting the serenity of the environment and deepening the experience of contemplative relaxation.

This remarkable space is not merely about aesthetics; it represents a transformative approach to bathing. Kohler aims to elevate the ritual of bathing to a restorative practice, one that slows the body and calms the mind while enhancing awareness of the elemental forces of light, water, and material.

Celebrating Sustainability

Surrounding the bathhouse are four specially crafted pollinator baths, a concept that marries human creativity with nature's needs. These unique sanctuaries for birds, bees, and other pollinators have been designed by Kohler and are cast in the company's historic foundry in Wisconsin. Each bath acts as a testament to the importance of biodiversity, underscoring the shared commitment of Kohler and Flamingo Estate to sustainable living.

By carefully selecting materials that withstand the test of time, these installations serve as a reminder that wellness thrives when we honor the natural rhythms of the environment. Together, the Flamingo Estate and Kohler exemplify a vision of how mindful design can foster a more sustainable future.
