Sungrow Leads the Charge for Hybrid Solar Power in Halmstad, Sweden
Sungrow's Hybrid Solar Park in Halmstad: A Leap into Renewable Energy
In an important step towards a more sustainable and resilient energy future, Halmstad, Sweden has successfully launched one of the country's pioneering hybrid solar parks. Sungrow, a global leader in renewable energy solutions, has played a pivotal role in this historic project by providing cutting-edge inverters and energy storage systems (ESS). By amalgamating photovoltaic technology with advanced energy storage systems, this initiative exemplifies the advances in the deployment of renewable energy, network stability, and energy efficiency.
Project Overview
Developed in collaboration with Solarwork Sverige and Powerworks Energy, the hybrid solar park aims to generate over 7,000 MWh of clean electricity annually, ensuring optimal energy production and supply at peak demand times. Sungrow's solutions have been instrumental in this achievement, supplying both photovoltaic inverters and the PowerTitan 1.0 energy storage system. This reinforces Sungrow's commitment to providing comprehensive and efficient energy solutions.
A Vision for Sustainable Energy
The driving force behind this ambitious project was the pressing need for cost-effective and on-demand electricity generation. Carl Kuylenstierna, CEO of Sperlingsholms Gods, the owner of the facility, stated, "We invested in a solar park because we believe society needs it; solar energy is a sustainable way to produce electricity. We generate electricity exactly when it’s needed most, during the daytime, and at a low marginal cost.” The photovoltaic installation boasts a capacity of 6.6 MWp with 11,928 bifacial photovoltaic modules rated at 550 Wp mounted on ground structures. The majority of the solar output is converted using 20 units of the Sungrow SG250HX string inverter, recognized for its high efficiency and perfect compatibility with bifacial modules.
Energy Storage for Network Efficiency
To further optimize energy efficiency and contribute to network frequency regulation, the facility incorporates 4 MW / 4.4 MWh of battery storage utilizing Sungrow’s PowerTitan 1.0. This system is AC coupled, ensuring that the photovoltaic system and the battery energy storage system (BESS) operate independently to enhance flexibility and reliability. Fredrik Lyckvind, Chief Strategy Officer at Powerworks Energy, emphasized the strategic choice of Sungrow technology. "We selected Sungrow’s technology for both the photovoltaic inverters and the BESS because they are market leaders and work exceptionally well in Nordic climates. We opted for the PowerTitan 1.0 due to its 1C system, which allows for charging and discharging within an hour – ideal for the markets we serve. Moreover, its liquid cooling technology significantly reduces operating costs and ensures long-term system stability."
Seamless Integration and Advanced Technology
The installation of Sungrow’s inverters and PowerTitan system was executed with exceptional efficiency, ensuring the project met its strict deadlines. Designed for user-friendliness and suitable for challenging environments, Sungrow’s solutions minimized downtime and expedited commissioning. Fredrik Liljehov, Head of Utility at Solarwork Sverige, noted, "This is one of the first hybrid solar parks in Sweden, featuring nearly 12,000 solar panels expected to yield 7,000 MWh annually. We installed 20 SG250HX inverters, chosen for their capability to manage large energy loads while providing flexible installation options."
Towards a Greener Future
As Sweden moves towards a greener energy landscape, Halmstad’s hybrid solar park sets a new benchmark for renewable energy projects, illustrating the potential of combining solar energy with smart storage solutions to create a cleaner, more resilient grid. Raphael Henkel, Director for the Sweden and Finland region at Sungrow, commented on the significance of this project, "We are delighted to collaborate with Solarwork Sverige and Powerworks Energy. The successful commissioning of one of Sweden’s first hybrid solar parks demonstrates the rising demand for integrated photovoltaic and ESS solutions. At Sungrow, we are committed to delivering innovative, high-performance technology that promotes grid stability and maximizes the development of renewable energy. This project for Sperlingsholms Gods exemplifies how hybrid photovoltaic and storage solutions can propel the transition to clean energy and represents an exemplary collaboration among the parties involved."
In conclusion, as Sweden advances towards a more sustainable energy future, Sungrow remains at the forefront of innovation, affirming its mission of providing clean power for all and proving that renewable solutions are not only viable but essential for the development of energy infrastructure Worldwide.
