Planet Fitness Reports Impressive Growth in Second Quarter of 2025 with Increased Membership and Revenue

Planet Fitness, Inc., a leading fitness center chain, has recently unveiled its financial performance for the second quarter of 2025, showcasing a robust growth trajectory. The company reported total revenues rising by 13.3% year-over-year to reach an impressive $340.9 million, reflecting a healthy increase driven by expanded membership and same club sales. As of June 30, 2025, total membership soared to approximately 20.8 million, illustrating the brand's appeal and effective marketing strategies.

One of the standout achievements during this quarter was the 8.2% rise in system-wide same club sales, which is a critical indicator of performance as it reflects the sales growth from the same locations over comparable periods. This surge exemplifies Planet Fitness's ability to attract and retain members in a competitive fitness industry. The total system-wide sales also displayed significant growth, escalating to $1.4 billion from $1.2 billion last year.

The financial report highlighted that the net income attributable to the company surged by nearly $9 million to $58.0 million, equating to $0.69 per diluted share, up from $48.6 million or $0.56 per diluted share in the previous year. Adjusted net income saw an increase of $10.4 million, marking $72.6 million, or $0.86 per diluted share, compared to last year's $62.2 million.

Planet Fitness's Chief Executive Officer, Colleen Keating, emphasized the 10-year milestone since the company went public, celebrating a significant journey of growth. Over the past decade, Planet Fitness has onboarded nearly 14 million new members and expanded its club footprint by over 1,700 locations globally. Keating stated that while the company has achieved substantial milestones, there is still a promising future ahead, particularly as public interest in health and wellness continues to grow.

In line with their growth strategy, 23 new clubs were opened during the quarter, further expanding its presence to a total of 2,762 clubs worldwide. This expansion strategy is indicative of the company's commitment to accessibility and convenience for its members, catalyzing its ongoing growth in the fitness sector. Planet Fitness's cash and marketable securities at the end of the quarter stood at an impressive $582.5 million, which includes $335.7 million in cash and cash equivalents.

Looking ahead to the remainder of 2025, Planet Fitness remains optimistic, reaffirming positive growth expectations including revenue increases in the 10% range and a rise in same club sales growth projected at approximately 6%. The company’s strategic moves, such as the recent agreement to sell eight corporate clubs to a franchisee, underscore its ongoing commitment to optimizing capital structure while maintaining an asset-light approach.

Overall, the second quarter results reflect Planet Fitness's capability to adapt and thrive amid fluctuating market conditions and serve the increasing demand for fitness services. As the company continues to pursue its mission of providing a high-quality and welcoming fitness experience, it is well-positioned for sustained growth and success in the coming years, appealing to a wide range of health-conscious consumers seeking an accessible gym environment, free from judgment. Retail and fitness experts view these developments as a positive sign for Planet Fitness, anticipating further initiatives to engage its growing member base and capitalize on the health and wellness trend that shows no sign of abating.
