Beat the Heat with Traditional Japanese Cooling at Tokyo Skytree Town
As summer heats up, Tokyo Skytree Town is excited to offer a unique cooling experience that highlights traditional Japanese culture. Visitors to this iconic destination can participate in various activities that embrace the essence of `natsuyasumi`, or summer vacations in Japan, while beating the sweltering heat of Tokyo.
Uchimizu: A Refreshing Tradition
One of the main attractions is
Uchimizu—a traditional Japanese method of cooling the environment by spreading water on the ground to lessen the heat. This year, Uchimizu will take place at two locations: the front entrance on the 4th floor of Tokyo Skytree and the Solamachi Hiroba on the first floor of Tokyo Solamachi.
Using rainwater collected in the facility's rainwater storage tanks, this initiative not only promotes cooling but is also in line with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). The event encourages consciousness towards water conservation in a creative manner.
From
August 1 to August 5, 2025, Uchimizu will be carried out from
4:00 PM to around 4:20 PM each day, assuming a clear sky with temperatures above 25°C. On select days, the beloved official character,
Sorarara-chan, will also make a special appearance to spread joy among guests.
Fun and Charming Events for Families
For families visiting Tokyo Skytree Town, from
August 6 to August 17, 2025, the Solamachi Hiroba will transform into a water playground. During this period, children can roam freely around the
Sora Machi Water Play Area, where exciting water play equipment will be set up, allowing them to splash around and make unforgettable summer memories.
In addition to water slides, families can expect thrilling features such as the
surprise bucket that douses participants unexpectedly and the
water fireworks display. The fun runs daily from
10:00 AM to 5:00 PM (with fountain operations from 10:00 AM to 7:00 PM) and is absolutely free for everyone!
Join Us for a Unique Experience
The charm of Uchimizu lies in its community spirit. Visitors are invited to join staff dressed in traditional attire while they carry out the water-throwing activity. The collective effort is known to lower ground temperatures by over 10 degrees Celsius, allowing everyone to feel a significant difference in their surrounding environment.
For children and foreign visitors, clear instructions and language support will be provided through flyers in both Japanese and English, ensuring that the experience is accessible to all. The event will also feature entertaining presentations by professional entertainers, including performers who bring together Japanese storytelling and humor.
Cool Down in Style
The environmental engagement does not stop at just Uchimizu and water play. Attendees can also receive a complimentary original fan to enhance their summer cooling experience. With approximately 500 fans provided daily, guests can bring home a piece of the Tokyo Skytree adventure.
Mark Your Calendars! Whether you want to learn about the aesthetics of Uchimizu or lie in the refreshing mist of the water playground, this summer promises an engaging mix of tradition and fun. Don’t miss your chance to enjoy
