"As we celebrate 140 years of educational progress and opportunities, we are excited to welcome Dr. Phillips to lead NLU's next chapter," stated Ian Ross, Chairman of the NLU Board of Trustees. Dr. Phillips's extensive background in academia ideally positions him to continue NLU's mission to innovate and prioritize student success. With a professional trajectory that includes influential roles at Kennedy-King College, Northern Illinois University, and various positions focused on student affairs and academic programs, he brings both experience and vision to his new role.
Dr. Eddie Phillips holds a Bachelor and Master of Arts in Sociology and Criminology, alongside a Doctorate in Education with a focus on Higher Education Leadership and Administration from Northern Illinois University. Reflecting on his appointment, Dr. Phillips expressed deep gratitude for the opportunity to lead the university at this significant juncture. He emphasized that Elizabeth Harrison, the institution's founder, had established an enduring legacy focused on using education for the betterment of humanity. Phillips is particularly enthusiastic about collaborating with faculty, staff, students, and alumni to reinforce NLU's dedication to fostering innovation and expanding educational opportunities. He aims to empower every student to thrive and effectively contribute to their communities.
Dr. Phillips is set to officially take office on August 1, 2026.
