Shanghai Electric Showcases Three Key Solutions for Energy Transition at Enlit Asia 2026

Jakarta, Indonesia - September 24, 2026 – At the Enlit Asia 2026 conference held from September 22 to 24 in Jakarta, Shanghai Electric presented three innovative solutions addressing the critical energy transition needs of ASEAN markets. This annual event has emerged as a pivotal platform for the energy sector in the region, attracting over 11,000 participants and 280 exhibitors, all converging to explore advancements, share insights, and shape the future of energy.

Addressing Regional Challenges with Tailored Innovations

Shanghai Electric's solutions are meticulously tailored to meet ASEAN's energy challenges, focusing on carbon emission reductions from existing thermal power plants, enhancing renewable energy integration, and ensuring the stability of island networks. First is the High-Efficiency Power Decarbonization solution, designed to assist countries like Indonesia in reducing energy system carbon intensity by modernizing existing units, switching fuels, and optimizing operations. The modular steam turbines utilized for the combined cycle H- and F-class systems cater to both power and heating demands, significantly improving efficiency while lowering overall costs. Notably, the high-capacity gas turbines can operate with a hydrogen blend of up to 30%, and the upgrades for coal-fired power plants facilitate enhanced thermal efficiency while reducing coal consumption for lower carbon operations.

Next is the Grid Modernization Resilience Upgrade, which addresses integration challenges of renewable energy into island networks, alongside frequency regulation and voltage stability. This solution combines synchronous condensers, flywheels, multi-technology energy storage systems, and integrated solar storage solutions. Synchronous condensers and flywheels offer rapid frequency response and inertia support; multi-tech storage solutions cater to both short-term and long-term applications; while the power capsules provide clean backup power connectivity for remote areas and critical loads.

Last but not least, the Power-to-X comprehensive solutions are based on the Jilin Taonan project, covering wind and solar generation, green hydrogen production, biomass gasification, and green methanol synthesis. A landmark achievement from this initiative includes a world record of 8,000 tons of green methanol bunkering in a single operation. Stage II, launched on August 20, 2026, aims for an impressive 200,000 tons of green methanol and 10,000 tons of sustainable aviation fuel annually. Currently, Shanghai Electric is expanding these solutions to the ASEAN maritime and aviation markets to facilitate low-carbon fuel supply and the decarbonization of shipping.

A Local Presence with Regional Impact

Shanghai Electric’s technologies and system solutions are backed by recognized regional expertise, and its energy equipment and services are deployed across Southeast Asia’s markets, including Indonesia, Malaysia, and Vietnam. Key projects such as the Indonesia Pelabuhan Ratu 3 x 350 MW Coal-fired Power Station, renewable energy plants in Selangor, Malaysia, and the recent Samalaju 500 MW Combined Cycle Gas Power Plant in Sarawak, Malaysia, underscore the company’s integrated capabilities in traditional energy modernization, high-efficiency gas generation, renewable energies, and clean fuels. These initiatives set the foundation for further employing these three solutions throughout the ASEAN region.

During Enlit Asia 2026, Shanghai Electric actively participated in the conference’s official agenda, delivering a technical presentation titled “Ultra High Capacity Gas Turbine Technology for Clean, Efficient, and Intelligent Power Generation.” This presentation highlighted the technology roadmap and region-specific solutions for high-capacity gas turbines and combined cycle systems. Additionally, the company organized numerous roadshow and exchange events, inviting representatives from PLN, Indonesia's state power company, local clients, and energy sector scholars to engage in discussions on fuel diversification and the advancement of Indonesia’s energy systems.
