Leadership Transition at City National Bank
In a significant transition for City National Bank, Kelly Coffey, who has served as the CEO of Entertainment Banking, Private Banking, and Wealth Management, has decided to step down after a remarkable six-year tenure. Effective February 14, 2025, Coffey will leave the bank to pursue new opportunities in her professional journey.
Coffey's announcement comes with a sense of gratitude, reflecting on the incredible experiences and relationships she has built while leading the organization. "I am deeply grateful to all my colleagues and clients who have made my experience at City National truly remarkable," said Coffey. "Every day, I have felt honored to lead this team of professionals in serving the needs of our clients and the entertainment industry at large."
During her time at City National, Coffey has made a profound impact, underscored by her empathetic leadership style and visionary approach. Howard Hammond, CEO of City National Bank, expressed his deep appreciation for her contributions, noting that Coffey left an indelible mark on the organization. "I wish Kelly all the best in this next exciting chapter and thank her for the lasting impact she has made on us all," remarked Hammond.
With Coffey’s exit, the bank is set to move forward under the capable leadership of JaHan Wang and Abel Montañez, both seasoned executives within the organization. Wang will continue his role as Executive Vice President of Entertainment Banking while Montañez assumes increased responsibilities within Private Banking and Wealth Management.
JaHan Wang joined City National in 2007 and has over 30 years of banking experience. His extensive background includes overseeing the Entertainment Banking offices across multiple regions, which includes New York and Miami. He is also actively engaged in community activities, serving on the board of The Geffen Playhouse and mentoring young professionals through Big Brothers Big Sisters of Greater Los Angeles. Wang aims to uphold the strong dedication that City National has towards serving clients in the entertainment industry.
On the other hand, Abel Montañez has more than 20 years of experience in wealth management and has previously worked with Wells Fargo where he was recognized as one of the top advisors in the company. Montañez’s expertise will help guide City National in delivering personalized wealth management services, ensuring that high-net-worth clients continue to receive the exceptional service they expect.
Coffey leaves behind a legacy of leadership development within the bank. "I am proud to have helped grow and develop the next generation of leadership at the bank who have never lost focus on the needs of our clients," Coffey stated. As she transitions into new opportunities, the bank is confident that both Wang and Montañez will fortify the commitment to excellence that clients have come to rely upon.
Since its establishment in 1954, City National Bank has evolved into the largest bank headquartered in Los Angeles, boasting assets of $94 billion. The organization focuses on personalized banking and investment services, making charitable contributions over $11 million to nonprofits that enhance community well-being.
As the bank prepares for this new chapter, the transition signifies a commitment to maintaining high service standards and advancing the business's mission under new leadership. With an eye towards the future, City National looks to continue its engaging journey in the industry, ensuring clients remain at the forefront of their business ethos.
