Palsystem East Hosts Successful Second Driver Contest, Emphasizing Safety and Skill

On November 29th, Palsystem East, a subsidiary of the Palsystem group responsible for logistics, held its much-anticipated second Driver Contest at the Palsystem Tsukuba Mirai Center in Ibaraki Prefecture. The event brought together 15 selected drivers from various locations, each competing for excellence in safe, accurate, and speedy driving.

Two Divisions: A Test of Skill

The competition was divided into two categories: the "Living Logistics Division," which utilized 1.5-ton vehicles for customer deliveries, and the "Core Transportation Division," featuring 4-ton vehicles for transporting goods from logistics centers to distribution centers. Each of the 15 participating sales offices across Fukushima, Ibaraki, Tochigi, and Chiba had the chance to present their best driver in hopes of winning the championship. The event attracted a total of 157 attendees, including competitors, colleagues, and family members, creating a lively atmosphere.

Challenging Courses and Competitions

The competition format was designed to test various driving skills. In the Living Logistics Division, drivers navigated through a slalom course and performed precision parking exercises without making contact. The Core Transportation Division's challenges included "tub-container driving," where drivers had to reverse their truck into tight spaces while making meticulous adjustments, and a challenge called "wet cloth stepping," where they had to stop their left rear wheel in a designated area. Additionally, every participant took a written exam, and scores from both driving skills and the theoretical test were combined to determine the winners.

Champions of the Contest

At the end of the day, the champions were announced. In the Living Logistics Division, Ikumi Todoroki from Matsudo Sales Office was awarded the top prize, while Yoshihiro Nonaka from the Core Transportation Division took home the grand honor. Both winners expressed their gratitude and dedication to maintaining safety in their driving. "I’m just happy to win," were Todoroki's heartfelt words, while Nonaka acknowledged the effort of his colleagues, stating, "This achievement is thanks to everyone’s guidance. I will continue to prioritize safe driving."

Commitment to Safety

In the closing remarks, Tsuyoshi Sekine, the Executive Vice President of Palsystem East, highlighted the importance of safe driving, saying, "To deliver products reliably to our customers, safe driving cannot be compromised. I urge all drivers to maintain accident-free records, for their colleagues' and families' sake." The contest not only celebrated driving skills but also reinforced the ethos of safety within the logistics company, strengthening community ties and professionalism among employees.

Looking Forward

As we approach International Cooperative Year in 2025, events like these are crucial in reinforcing the cooperative spirit and dedication to community service in the logistics field. The skills exhibited during the Driver Contest reflect a commitment to providing safe and efficient services to customers, ensuring that Palsystem East continues to thrive as a leader in the industry.
