Pulmonary Fibrosis Foundation's 25-Year Journey Culminates in Chicago Conference

The Pulmonary Fibrosis Foundation (PFF) is set to commemorate a significant milestone — its 25th anniversary — by hosting the PFF Summit 2025 in Chicago from November 13 to 15, 2025. As the leading organization dedicated to advancing research, education, and advocacy related to pulmonary fibrosis (PF), the PFF Summit will bring together a diverse gathering of patients, caregivers, medical professionals, and researchers from around the globe.

A Focus on Innovation and Community

The upcoming Summit, aptly themed "25 Years Together: Honoring the Past, Building on the Present, Innovating for the Future," aims to highlight the critical partnerships that have emerged over two and a half decades in the fight against PF and interstitial lung disease (ILD). It represents a unique opportunity for attendees to engage in collaborative discussions about the latest advancements in research and care practices that directly impact the lives of over 250,000 Americans living with these conditions.

Scott Staszak, PFF's President and CEO, emphasized the importance of this theme, stating, “Our Summit theme reflects our continuing commitment to uniting the entire PF and ILD community — from patients and caregivers to researchers and clinicians. For 25 years, we've worked to improve care, support, and quality of life for those affected by these diseases.”

Summing Up the Experience

The Summit will kick off with a welcome reception on November 13, where attendees can network, share experiences, and view poster presentations showcasing the latest research in the field. A notable highlight is the competitive Poster Awards, which recognize outstanding scientific contributions in pulmonary fibrosis research. Not only will the top three presenters receive monetary prizes — $2,000 for first place, $1,500 for second, and $1,000 for third — but their work will also be featured in a special session titled "Research in the Pipeline: Paving the Way for Tomorrow's Breakthroughs" on November 15.

This year marks a significant expansion in the awards program, with the introduction of five new Trainee Poster Awards aimed at encouraging medical students and early-career researchers. This initiative aligns with the PFF’s mission to nurture the next generation of investigators and innovators in the field of pulmonary health.

Continuing Education Opportunities

Additionally, the PFF Summit will offer enduring Continuing Medical Education (CME) credits for accredited sessions, providing healthcare professionals with ongoing access to important educational resources for up to 12 months after the event. Live streamed sessions will allow participants to access recorded materials at their own convenience, further enhancing educational opportunities around best practices in clinical care.

Engaging Keynotes and Valuable Insights

Throughout the Summit, attendees can look forward to daily plenary sessions featuring keynote speakers and expert panels discussing timely topics in PF and ILD research. Notably, the first keynote on November 14 will address the pressing need for more equitable clinical trials that engage diverse populations. The November 15 keynote will explore the potential of artificial intelligence in identifying new therapeutic targets for these diseases. Participants will also benefit from multiple breakout sessions tailored to patients, caregivers, and healthcare professionals, fostering a comprehensive dialogue about the complexities of care.

Call for Participation

The call for abstracts for presentations at the Summit opens on June 2, with a submission deadline set for August 1. Interested individuals can submit their proposals online via the PFF Summit platform, with the details available at pffsummit.org.

The PFF Summit 2025 would not be possible without the generous support of its Diamond sponsor, Boehringer Ingelheim, among other corporations and individual contributors committed to improving the lives of those affected by pulmonary fibrosis.
