Delivering Visible Impact to the World
The Advanced Eye Care Group based in Osaka, Japan, is renowned for its national network dedicated to advanced medical practices. Recently, Dr. Akira Fuchigami, the director of Advanced Eye Care Fukuoka Iizuka, participated in an international medical volunteer program called "Eye Camp", organized by the NPO Project Operation Sight for All (POSA) from October 31 to November 4, 2025. During this period, he performed cataract surgeries in Dhaka, Bangladesh, bringing crucial medical assistance to patients who otherwise couldn't afford such procedures.
In total, Dr. Fuchigami and his team conducted over 40 cataract surgeries daily. The medical conditions were vastly different from what the team was accustomed to in Japan, lacking modern facilities and equipment. Nonetheless, they managed to ensure safe and efficient procedures by collaborating with doctors from around the country who shared the same goal of providing medical care.
"I faced significant challenges, including the language barrier with patients and operating under substandard conditions. However, encountering the smiles of local children and their heartfelt gratitude for the medical care they received left a profound impact on me. This experience reinforced my appreciation for the state-of-the-art facilities and skilled staff that I typically have access to," shared Dr. Akira Fuchigami.
About POSA
Founded in 1995 and established as a non-profit organization in 1999, Project Operation Sight for All (POSA) is dedicated to providing free, high-standard cataract surgery for those who cannot afford it due to financial constraints. Guided by the principle, "ALL THAT IS NOT SHARED IS LOST", POSA has been actively conducting Eye Camps primarily in Bangladesh, focusing on skill transfer to local healthcare providers and cultivating local talent.
Advanced Eye Care's Commitment
As one of Japan's largest eye care networks, Advanced Eye Care has an active role in both domestic and international medical support initiatives. In conjunction with this program, they contributed 300 surgical knives (both crescent and slit knives) at no cost, bolstering the precision and safety of surgeries performed in Bangladesh. The organization's chairman, Yoshitaka Oka, has historically participated in cataract surgeries in the region, making Dr. Fuchigami's involvement a testament to their ongoing commitment to international medical contributions.
Advanced Eye Care is dedicated to pushing the boundaries of clinical and academic activities, addressing global medical challenges under their mission, "Wow! Vision - Bringing Visible Impact to Everyone". They strive to deliver a "visible future" across the globe.
