International Conference on Cohesive Societies Sets Stage for a Unified Multicultural Future
International Conference on Cohesive Societies 2025
The International Conference on Cohesive Societies (ICCS) will be taking place in Singapore from June 24-26, 2025, marking its exciting third edition. With the theme "Cohesive Societies, Resilient Futures," the conference aims to address vital issues concerning multiculturalism in today's increasingly divided world.
Over 1,000 delegates, including global thought leaders, policymakers, and community practitioners from more than 50 countries, are expected to gather for this significant event. The ICCS is organized by the S. Rajaratnam School of International Studies (RSIS) and is backed by the Ministry of Culture, Community and Youth (MCCY). Their collaborative efforts highlight a shared commitment to fostering social cohesion and resilience among diverse cultures.
The conference will feature multiple sessions, including plenaries, workshops, and breakout discussions focusing on practical approaches to social cohesion through three main pillars: Unpacking Multiculturalism, Navigating Uncertainty, and Forging Societal Resilience. Key topics to be covered include methods to cultivate harmony amidst diversity, strategies for addressing social polarization and extremism, and essential skills for conflict mediation and resolution. Preliminary findings from the Southeast Asian Social Cohesion Radar 2025 will also be showcased, providing valuable insights into the region's social dynamics.
The event will kick off with an opening address by Singapore's President, Mr. Tharman Shanmugaratnam. Other prominent speakers include His Royal Highness Sultan Nazrin Muizzuddin Shah of Malaysia and Mr. Edwin Tong, Singapore's Minister for Law. Their participation highlights the importance of leadership in tackling the challenges of a multicultural society.
In addition to the main conference, a Young Leaders Programme (YLP) will take place from June 26-28, 2025. This initiative invites emerging leaders to engage actively as co-curators and facilitators, delving into significant issues such as unconscious bias in volunteerism and the ethical implications of AI in faith communities. About 100 young delegates will collaborate to develop initiatives aimed at strengthening social cohesion, thereby fostering a sense of belonging among diverse groups.
The conference offers an unparalleled platform for cross-cultural dialogue, knowledge sharing, and collaborative problem-solving, laying the foundation for cohesive societies. Delegates will leave with not only new skills but also refreshed perspectives on integrating multiculturalism effectively within their communities.
