Belk Marks 20 Years of Charity Sales, Empowering Local Communities

Belk Celebrates Two Decades of Charity Sales Benefitting Local Communities

Belk, a prominent department store chain, is honoring 20 years of its influential Charity Sale, which serves as a unique opportunity for customers to shop purposefully while significantly benefiting local nonprofits. Scheduled for June 5-7, this year's event invites customers to acquire exclusive discounts while making a positive impact in their communities.

This special initiative began two decades ago with a simple yet powerful idea: to link shopping with altruism. Since its inception in 2006, Belk's Charity Sale has passionately supported over 6,000 nonprofit organizations, aiding various community programs across its expansive 16-state presence. Customers can participate by purchasing a $5 ticket, available through participating nonprofits or at any Belk store until June 7 (note that Belk Market and Belk Outlet locations are excluded). This ticket not only provides direct funding to nonprofits but also unlocks substantial savings for shoppers on a variety of top-tier brands, including Levi's, Nike, and Free People.

How It Works

1. Grab a Ticket: Secure a $5 ticket either through a participating nonprofit or directly from any Belk store.
2. Lock in Your Look: Customers can get a head start by shopping a pre-sale event until June 4, allowing them to reserve select items in advance.
3. Shop and Save: From June 5-7, shoppers can redeem their Charity Sale ticket at checkout to enjoy a $5 discount along with an additional 25% off certain designer brands—an opportunity that's rare throughout the year.
4. Know Your Impact: All proceeds from ticket sales bolster nonprofit organizations. For tickets acquired through participating charities, funds directly support those specific organizations, whereas ticket sales at Belk stores contribute to three main partners: Family Promise, Salvation Army, and Boys & Girls Clubs.

"The overwhelming loyalty we've received through the Charity Sale from our customers highlights their commitment to their local communities," stated Don Hendricks, CEO of Belk. "It's gratifying to provide a platform that drives real change."

The range of organizations involved is extensive, with over 3,500 nonprofits participating this season. This solid network not only spans Belk's geographic footprint but also resonates deeply with customers, providing a meaningful connection to their communities. This initiative emphasizes Belk’s dedication to social responsibility, encouraging shoppers to make a difference without sacrificing quality and style.

Success Stories

To illustrate the impact of this longstanding tradition, Major Andrew Wiley, Area Commander for the Salvation Army of Greater Charlotte, shared, "Celebrating two decades alongside Belk's Charity Sale highlights the profound influence we've achieved together. This partnership has enabled local units to provide essential services, such as feeding and sheltering families in need. In Charlotte, our collaboration has brought safe havens to countless families experiencing homelessness and offered enriching after-school programs to youth. Our gratitude extends to Belk and its customers, whose generosity allows us to change lives."

All 501(c)(3) nonprofit organizations are welcome to join this meaningful event. Interested groups can reach out to their nearest Belk store or visit Belk's Charity Sale Resources page for additional details.
