At the recent 11th Ultra-Broadband Forum (UBBF) held on October 15, 2025, Huawei's Carrier Business President, James Chen, delivered an impactful keynote addressing the crucial role of artificial intelligence (AI) in driving ultra-broadband (UBB) advancements. Under the theme "Three Jumps Toward UBB with AI: Inspiring New Business Growth," Chen shared the company’s commitment to helping operators grow in a rapidly evolving digital landscape.

In his speech, Chen emphasized how operators have made significant strides across three critical dimensions: depth, breadth, and height, which he categorically termed as 'triple jumps.' These innovative approaches not only underscore Huawei’s dedication to technological growth but also reflect a new era of UBB augmented by AI.

Jump in Depth: Paradigm Shift from Bandwidth to Experience



The first jump focuses on depth, transforming the traditional monetization model from one centered purely on bandwidth usage to one that prioritizes user experience. Operators are now harnessing AI capabilities to identify specific areas needing improvement in application experiences proactively. This shift allows for monetization that extends beyond user level to application level, thus enhancing overall user satisfaction.

For instance, a leading operator in Thailand successfully implemented Huawei's AI WAN solution, which enabled it to develop new application-level experience assurance capabilities. This advancement resulted in a smoother gaming experience for users and a significant increase in Average Revenue Per User (ARPU).

Jump in Breadth: Expanding Business Horizons



The second jump in breadth pertains to the expansion of business operations to incorporate intelligent digital services alongside traditional networking. With over a billion home gateways in the global network market, operators have a unique opportunity to upgrade these into smart home service providers. Huawei's new AI Homehub, developed this year, exemplifies this new direction. One operator has effectively utilized this hub to introduce smart home services, resulting in a remarkable 60% increase in ARPU from home services.

Moreover, the use of fiber-to-the-office (FTTO) solutions allows operators to provide SMEs with unified management platforms embodying digital and intelligent services, such as IoT and video services, thereby facilitating smarter transformations. The top three operators in China have deployed Huawei's FTTO solutions at scale, catering to over 2 million users.

Jump in Height: Intelligent Network Operations



The height jump relates to the automation and intelligence of network operations, transitioning from traditional, manual order-based systems to smarter, autonomous solutions. This innovation is marked by the development of Level 4 autonomous networks. For example, Huawei has partnered with MasOrange in Spain to create Europe’s first Level 4 autonomous IP network. This initiative has drastically reduced the Mean Time to Repair (MTTR), reflecting improved user satisfaction.

Chen concluded by affirming that the journey of AI in UBB is just beginning. Huawei is eager to collaborate with its partners and operators to foster continuous innovation. The goal is to leverage AI not just for enhancing user experiences but also to unlock new growth curves and reduce operational expenditures, thereby ensuring that operators thrive in the AI era.
