New Demonstration Project for BIPV Solar Power Using Perovskite Technology Launches in Hiroshima

In an exciting new venture, Chudenko Corporation, Chuo Electric Power Company, and YKK AP have officially launched a demonstration project to explore the capabilities of building-integrated photovoltaics (BIPV) utilizing groundbreaking perovskite solar cell technology. This initiative, designed to examine both practical and performance aspects of the technology, will commence at Yamayamita, a local community exchange plaza in Hiroshima's Minami Ward, in April 2025.

The centerpiece of this project, HIROSHIMA ZERO BOX, represents the first installation of its kind in western Japan. This demonstration house will integrate perovskite solar cells into windows alongside various other solar technologies. The energy produced will power indoor lighting and climate control systems, making this a significant step toward sustainable living spaces.

The project aims not only to mitigate environmental impacts but also to serve as an interactive hub for community members, schools, and businesses, reinforcing local engagement while pioneering advancements in renewable energy.

Overview of the HIROSHIMA ZERO BOX



HIROSHIMA ZERO BOX is primarily designed to test the generating capabilities of BIPV allocated to internal windows of existing buildings. Noteworthy for its ease of installation and maintenance, the internal window type BIPV can harvest energy while providing insulation and soundproofing advantages. This makes it a promising candidate for wider adoption in the solar energy sector.

YKY AP’s involvement brings advanced technology and innovation to the forefront, allowing community members to experience the future of energy firsthand at the Yamayamita facility. This center will not only offer a sustainable and comfortable environment but also inspire locals and students to engage in discussions around decarbonization efforts in the region.
