Northstar Expands Product Range with New Limestone Recovery Patent

Northstar Expands Product Offering with Limestone Recovery

In a strategic move, Northstar Clean Technologies Inc. has officially introduced limestone recovery as its fourth product line. The announcement is coupled with the exciting news of a new patent granted by the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) that protects this innovative recovery process, which is a part of their unique technology for reprocessing asphalt shingles.

Breaking New Ground in Asphalt Shingle Recycling

The Calgary-based company has successfully developed a method to extract and recover limestone from old asphalt shingles. Limestone plays a critical role in enhancing the durability and longevity of shingles, making this development extraordinarily beneficial for both the company and its customers. Aidan Mills, Northstar’s President and CEO, emphasized the importance of this new product line in improving the quality of the final asphalt product. By providing a high-quality asphalt mix designed for optimal performance, Northstar significantly differentiates itself in the competitive global marketplace.

With this new patent ensuring protection through to 2045, Northstar not only secures its intellectual property but also reinforces its leading position in the sustainable asphalt recycling sector. This strategic advantage emphasizes Northstar's commitment to environmental sustainability and its pioneering efforts toward a circular economy.

Existing Product Lines Complementing the New Addition

The launch of the limestone product line complements Northstar’s current lineup, which includes liquid and pelletized asphalt, aggregate, and fiber or fiberglass. Each of these products aligns with sustainable practices, where discarded materials are transformed for continued use and reduced landfill waste.

Northstar's proprietary design process allows the extraction of liquid asphalt from old shingles, which can then be reintegrated into new asphalt shingle manufacturing and flat roof systems. Moreover, it also recovers aggregate and fiber that have essential applications in various construction products.

Future Plans and Global Expansion

Beyond the newly issued patent, the company has plans to file for additional patents in Canada and other international jurisdictions. Northstar aims to expand its intellectual portfolio to ensure comprehensive protection for its innovative technologies.

As part of their strategy to establish a robust commercial presence, Northstar aims to launch its first large-scale reprocessing facility in Calgary, Alberta. This facility represents a significant step towards leading the industry in recycling and processing asphalt shingles that would otherwise contribute to landfill overcrowding.
