Huawei's TECH4ALL Initiative Expands Its Role in Digital and Green Transformation Across Europe

Huawei's TECH4ALL Initiative: A New Era in Digital and Green Transformation in Europe

At the recently held Huawei Connect Paris 2024, Huawei and its key partners showcased the significant advancements of the TECH4ALL initiative in driving digital and green transformations across Europe. This initiative, which represents Huawei’s commitment to utilizing technology for social good, presented both new and existing projects at a dedicated forum on the first day of the event. The emphasis was on how these projects contribute to sustainable development and the betterment of humanity and the planet.

Jeffrey Zhou, the President of ICT Marketing at Huawei, greeted participants with a powerful message: “We believe that technology and partnerships are foundational to digital and green transformation and play a crucial role in building an inclusive and sustainable digital world.” This philosophy underpins the TECH4ALL initiative, which has been growing since its inception in 2019 and has never been stronger than it is now.

During the forum, the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN) announced the global partnership Tech4Nature, co-founded by Huawei and IUCN in 2020. The partnership aims to enhance nature conservation efforts through technological innovations. Aligned with the goals of TECH4ALL and the IUCN Green List, Tech4Nature has already supported 11 crucial projects across eight countries, offering tailored solutions to pressing environmental challenges. James Hardcastle, Director of Global Protected and Conserved Areas at IUCN, emphasized the importance of this collaboration by stating, “Technology must be part of the solution to the biodiversity crisis and climate change the planet faces.”

The second phase of Tech4Nature, which commenced in 2024, includes launching new projects in five countries. Notable is a biodiversity monitoring and protection initiative in Spain's Sierra Nevada, which kicked off just last week.

A highlight from the event was the introduction of a fire prevention system by the Greek startup PROBOTEK, developed as part of the TECH4ALL initiative. This project, in collaboration with the Greek government and several universities, such as the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens, deployed its pilot solutions on the island of Skiathos. Leveraging sensors, 5G, artificial intelligence, and drones, this system aims to mitigate potential wildfire damage by facilitating emergency responses during the critical first 15 minutes after a fire is detected. It will send evacuation routes directly to smartphones and help plan responses for firefighting and ambulance services.

In education, UNESCO has joined hands with Huawei through the TECH4ALL initiative to foster educational equity and quality globally. Their collaborative efforts focus on revitalizing STEM education, ensuring that upcoming European generations are equipped with the vital skills needed in these fields. Magdalena Landry, Director of the UNESCO Regional Office for Science and Culture in Europe, remarked on the significance of building a robust ecosystem that enhances critical thinking, problem-solving skills, and innovation.

Moreover, the partners Close the Gap and Konexio shared updates on their DigiTruck projects aimed at boosting digital inclusion by providing digital skills training to marginalized communities in France, including the elderly and unemployed youth. With courses reaching around 6,000 individuals in 31 cities, these initiatives were acknowledged at the evening event DigiTALL for their contributions to digital inclusion and the UN Sustainable Development Goals.

Through the TECH4ALL initiative, Huawei has partnered with a range of stakeholders, including governments, NGOs, international organizations, and educational institutions, recognizing the vital role technology plays in supporting inclusion and sustainability. Looking ahead, Huawei plans to increase its projects and partnerships in Europe, underlining its commitment to a more inclusive digital future.
