Truecaller Unveils Major Update for iPhone Users, Enhancing Caller ID Capabilities
Truecaller Unveils Groundbreaking Update for iPhone Users
Truecaller, a leading global platform for contact verification and spam blocking, has announced a significant update for its iPhone application, marking an important benchmark in the company's history. As of January 22, 2025, with Apple’s introduction of its iOS 18, Truecaller has rolled out advanced features that were previously unavailable on iPhones, such as real-time caller ID and automated spam call blocking. This update is expected to enhance the user experience and solidify Truecaller's position in the market, particularly among iOS users.
The CEO of Truecaller, Rishit Jhunjhunwala, expressed his excitement regarding this launch, stating, "We are proud that, 15 years after Truecaller’s inception, we can now provide iOS users with the same world-class Caller ID and spam-blocking experience that our Android users enjoy. This development allows us to broaden our reach to new demographics and markets where iOS penetration is significantly high."
Notably, the update is expected to lead to a substantial increase in subscription revenue for Truecaller, as it introduces a Premium Family plan that allows users to share benefits with up to four additional family members. The update presents a competitive advantage, especially as the app’s growth trajectory shows a high conversion rate from free to paid subscriptions — currently, iOS users convert to paid plans at a rate over five times higher compared to Android users.
Historically, the limitations of Truecaller on iOS involved a local database for caller identification, which restricted the app's capability. However, this update leverages Truecaller’s advanced AI and global database, significantly expanding the range of calls that can be identified. The addition of automatic spam blocking is another feature that users have long anticipated. Thanks to Apple's innovative Live Caller ID Lookup framework, Truecaller is utilizing cutting-edge homomorphic encryption technology to maintain user privacy while delivering real-time caller information.
To enable this new functionality, users simply need to make sure they are using the Truecaller version 14.0 or later and adjust their settings accordingly in both their phone and the app.
Truecaller has long been an essential tool for over 433 million monthly active users, and around 30 million of these users are on iOS. As the app continues to grow, more than 40% of its premium revenue now comes from iOS users, underscoring the platform's diverse revenue streams. Truecaller's commitment to fighting fraud and unwanted communications remains instrumental in creating a trustworthy digital environment, particularly in markets that are highly impacted by these issues.
Additionally, the update includes a unique offering in India where the Premium Family plan also provides fraud insurance, offering an extra layer of protection against digital scams for family members.
As of now, the new features of Truecaller will be available exclusively to Premium subscribers—with existing free users still able to access ad-supported manual number searches and verified business caller IDs. Truecaller’s vision is to promote safer and more efficient communication as it ventures into the future of mobile technology. Overall, this update is a significant leap forward, enhancing the functionality of Truecaller while also improving user satisfaction amongst its broader audience.
