In a significant move for the financial sector, Diane Morais has been selected to join the board of directors of First Citizens BancShares, Inc., effective from July 1, 2025. Her vast experience in financial services is expected to enhance the governance and strategic direction of the organization.

Morais comes with an impressive background, boasting over 30 years of industry experience. She was previously a key player at Ally Bank, where she held various leadership roles, culminating in her position as President of Consumer and Commercial Banking from 2017 until her retirement in 2024. During her tenure at Ally, she was instrumental in the launch and development of the Ally brand, contributing significantly to its growth and digital transformation. Morais's responsibilities included overseeing a multitude of services including deposits, online brokerage, advisory offerings, mortgages, lending, and credit card divisions, all while ensuring the company's customer service efficiency and compliance with the Community Reinvestment Act.

Frank B. Holding, Jr., the chairman and CEO of First Citizens, expressed his enthusiasm regarding Morais's appointment, emphasizing that her results-driven approach and customer-centric leadership aligns perfectly with First Citizens’ mission, which focuses on long-term relationships and service. He highlighted the board's anticipation of the valuable insights she will bring, given her extensive expertise across diverse financial services disciplines.

Before her significant role at Ally, Morais made substantial contributions at Bank of America for 12 years, holding various senior positions that covered deposits, card services marketing, and customer experience. Additionally, she worked with Citibank in various roles related to marketing and finance, further broadening her expertise in the financial domain.

Morais’s educational background includes a bachelor's degree from Pennsylvania State University. Beyond her corporate career, she is active in various community organizations, serving on the boards of the YMCA of Greater Charlotte, Junior Achievement of Central Carolinas, and Charlotte Center City Partners. Her commitment to community service and leadership has earned her multiple accolades, including a nine-year consecutive selection to American Banker Magazine's 25 Most Powerful Women in Banking list up to 2023, and the 2024 Lifetime Achievement Award from the Charlotte Business Journal.

Moreover, Morais has been recognized as the 2022 Businesswoman of the Year by Queens University, highlighting her influence in the Charlotte business community. Her commitment doesn’t stop at professional achievements; she is involved in charitable initiatives like Habitat for Humanity and Dress for Success.

In her capacity at First Citizens BancShares, Morais will serve on both the Joint Risk Committee and the Joint Technology Committee, further solidifying her role in shaping the company's strategic priorities in risk management and technological advancements.
