Fred Rogers Productions Unveils New Initiative Focused on Caregiving for Children

Fred Rogers Productions Launches 'Many Ways to Show You Care'

Fred Rogers Productions, renowned for its influence on children's media, is excited to announce the launch of 'Many Ways to Show You Care.' This new multiplatform initiative aims to educate children aged 2-6 about the concept of caregiving through engaging and relatable content. Slated to launch on November 7, the initiative will be accessible via popular platforms including pbskids.org, the PBS KIDS Video app, and the PBS KIDS for Parents YouTube channel.

The initiative includes a variety of content types such as short documentaries, an uplifting music video inspired by the teachings of Fred Rogers, lesson plans for educators, and interactive family activities. All pieces will emphasize storytelling in a manner that is age-appropriate, ensuring that young kids can see the importance of caregiving in family dynamics.

Through the documentary shorts, families will be introduced to three inspiring children from Pittsburgh: Ramiro, a spirited 6½-year-old who assists his great-grandmother; Anabella, a resourceful 10-year-old big sister helping her parents care for her younger brothers, one of whom faces multiple disabilities; and Josh, an 11-year-old whose thoughtfulness shines as he supports his father, who has experienced a traumatic brain injury. These compelling narratives highlight real-life scenarios where caregiving is woven into daily life, showcasing the strength and love present within families.

Beloved PBS KIDS characters will host each documentary, thereby bridging the initiative's caregiving themes with the renowned content produced by Fred Rogers Productions. Characters like Daniel Tiger from Daniel Tiger's Neighborhood, Donkey Hodie from Donkey Hodie, and Alma Rivera from Alma's Way will guide children through these important lessons.

Accompanying the launch will be a reimagined music video featuring Fred Rogers' cherished song, 'There Are Many Ways to Say I Love You.' This video not only revisits a classic but also showcases moments from the documentary shorts, with character performances strengthening Fred Rogers' ongoing legacy.

In addition to rich video content, the initiative will provide educational resources including curated video clips from existing PBS KIDS shows. These materials will be available on PBS LearningMedia and will be coupled with lesson plans designed by Fred Rogers Productions in conjunction with child development experts. Activities tailored for families and caregivers will also be made available on the PBS KIDS for Parents website, promoting learning and growth through themes of compassion, empathy, and support.

Ellen Doherty, Chief Creative Officer and Executive Producer of the project, expressed her enthusiasm: "Many Ways to Show You Care is inspired by the notion that children can learn about caregiving as part of being in a loving family. We are thrilled to connect our content with the compelling narratives presented in the 'Caregiving' documentary."

This initiative also aligns with the broader PBS documentary Caregiving, which premiered in June 2025 and explores the significance and challenges of caregiving in the lives of many Americans. Weston Middleton of Lea Pictures highlighted the importance of this project, noting how it allows children to engage with themes that resonate in their lives, thereby cultivating a feeling of representation.

Tom Chiodo, Executive Producer of Special Projects at WETA, emphasized that by raising awareness among young children about the nature of caregiving, they are better equipped to manage these responsibilities in their later years.

Supported by various organizations, including the Richard King Mellon Foundation and The Arthur Vining Davis Foundations, the project serves as a catalyst for discussions about caregiving and its impact on families. This innovative approach will not only benefit children through engaging stories but also prepare future caregivers for the challenges and rewards that lie ahead.

Fred Rogers Productions continues to honor the values established by Fred Rogers and aims to inspire a lifelong passion for learning in young minds. As the company evolves, their series such as Daniel Tiger's Neighborhood and Alma's Way reinforce this mission through meaningful storytelling.
